For use in sunlight, or if the battery life is hugely improved, I see this as a tablet competitor, not a eInk replacement.

So, for me, nothing about it makes it seem likely that I'd buy it. I have some really nice tablets, yet always read anything that takes more than a few minutes on my eInk device. Better eInk is what would interest me.
I understand but still it is a particular LCD not reflexive that I remember is the principle why the eink is cool to read

So combining the advantages of an ereader without refresh eink rate
Smooth video great touch experience need that people in the world can use
Only one device to carry on.
I live in amsterdam and now that is kind of summer I see every day in the parks where I go to run people that carry more and more mini ipad to read.. In the sun Seing their face on the screen. And they do the same with galaxy tabs

But when I speak with them they carry on plugs to charge the battery
And when I show the not reflective light of the eink they agree is better to read outside but.. They cannot do the same things

Several company are experimenting not reflexive screen long battery endurance even on the ..mobile phone using monochrome eink..

Battery and a display that allow you to read and do other is the trend according to me all the data are in this direction.
Or will do apple samsung. Or will do sony amazon
As people say in Dutch het is niet anders( no way things will be different than this)

I am disappointed because I am copying and paste some small content of a book
Highlights and I cannot do with Sony as the Evernote feature is awkward for me
Compared what I can do with android

I did not rooted and so I carry always Sony plus or iPad/mini ipad or Sony plus android tablet and this is not nice for me as hard reader
So now that is summer I am "surviving" with iPhone 5 plus Sony t2

But still I have problems( huge) in seeing video for the batteries

But now that is summer I am happy to put my t2 in the back pocket with custody and my iphone in the other

Even with the Sony Cover with light, the T2 fits into my back pocket. Awesome, Sony.

That is one of the main advantages of T2 - it does offer android. The nice android button and everything
I bought my multiple T2s only after it was successfully hacked.
Not rooted it is useless to me. If rooted - it is the best reader in the world.

You are speaking about "reflow" - so probably about pdf?
I never even tried pdf but I know that you can install various different pdf viewers on rooted T2.

So perhaps it is not too late to root your T2? What is your firmware version?
Everything depends on that.
First thing, try making the full backup image, before rooting.
Not changing anything yet.
If you are able to make the backup (i.e, to get into the recovery mode and to see from PC the whole internal multi-partition disk), you should be able to root it too.
Furthermore, you will be able to use that image to go back if you want.

My sister has the cover with light. I prefer the cover without light. It fits into my shirt pocket
I have Ozeri Kandle Flex (it is awesome) if I ever need a light.

No. That does not fit actually. The pockets at my shirts are too small for the T2 with the normal case.

Another reason to look forward to this even smaller T3!

I meant, the width fits, a part of T2 is showing outside the pocket. But there is no danger it could fall out - it is not a loose fit, some effort required to insert it into the pocket.
It would be a different matter if without any cover at all.

Consider this: Nook would not fit even without a cover. 1-0 to Sony.

Reminder to myself: to buy new clothes with pockets for Aura HD

I can root, but I do not do, because my iphone 5 is perfect to play chesson the sun.
I think (sorry for the lovely critic I am doing) we should speak about T2 comprehensive of guarantee, not what can happen with a root. Or at least not in this post where we are dealing with specifical sony specifications.
Really few T2 have been rooted in comparison with the sold units (at least I am supposing ), having android natively supported and guaranteed(so as the necessary updates ) it is another subject than try to sort out tricks to root the device risking to brick it and losing it.

Protective policies do not pay off if you are not called apple that offers some apps android (unfortunately) does not have, opening the software to 3th part applications is a free way to guarantee bigger market quotes, and please consider also different is the philosophy of amazon, with hardware prices really accesible and on the edge of the technology.

all in all, mini ipad retina is around the corner, samsung, sony xperia 5 inches do the same, to save the niche ereader and justify the reader to carry on it, need to offer nice features like battery, color, android. that is my point in 3 rows

for the attention guys.

I can kind of understand it, since I was doing it for a little while. There's a definite shift in thinking that comes with a resource that is post-scarcity, and it takes people a while to adjust.

The natural reaction is to grab everything ASAP in case it goes away. And the changeable nature of the net reinforces that to a certain extent. But eventually people come to understand that they really don't need to worry about it - there's always another book, or a torrent, or some way to get what they want. There's an abundance and they don't need to fret about it. People can just get what they want right away and not have to worry about stockpiling for the future.

It's an interesting shift because it mimics so many of the changes in inventory management and storage that are going on in the business world. Makes me wonder what's going to happen when manufacturing gets decentralized (3D printing, etc). What will people do all day to keep themselves busy and contributing to society?

The light if anything was the only thing that made it possible to read on the 700. And I did end up giving it back within a week. I had the PRS-600 too, which didn't have the light, but had the same touch layer, and was almost as bad.

Same problems too, glare and lack of screen contrast due to the touch layer. Which is why this Sony attitude of "we tried the light and people hated it" annoys me so much. It wasn't the light people hated, but the low quality of the touch layer.

The PRS-600 went back to the store also, and I stuck with the PRS-550 until the 650 came out.
I didn't have the 700, but I did own the 600 and you're right that the touch layer did reduce the contrast a bit (and sometimes was too reflective). I also had one of the ones that the screen faded on in direct sunlight (something I learned after I had it a couple of years). I skipped the 650 and picked up a T1 a little more than a year ago and love it. I liked the solid feel of the 600, but the screen is definitely better on the T1. The T2 was not enough of a step up to make me swap my T1, but if the T3 is high res and front-lighted, Sony will have another repeat customer. I turned my 600 on a few days ago and discovered it had died. Most of my books were on a MS Duo Pro, so I'd debating looking for a cheap 650 even though none of my 600 covers will fit it...

Yeah, I remember a comment from one of the Sony higher ups when the T1 came out and was more expensive that other readers. Something along the lines of "We don't compete on price. We compete on quality." I thought that was very arrogant. I agree that their build quality is very good and I've had very few problems out of them (My 600 would occasionally corrupt and lose my annotations), but you have to be a little bit competitive on price...

Don't need a power button... Printed books don't have those, either.

Seriously, I agree NFC is probably a bit overkill. Perhaps you could use it for book lending if Sony supported lending like Nook.

A little something to leave you with along these lines:

Sony has a bad habit of not supporting older devices for very long after the new one comes out. The last firmware update for the T1 was 1.0.05.11130 from November 27, 2012.
I have a Sony Tablet S which was a nice tablet, but one of the updates caused some sporadic issues with the wifi which would cause the tablet to shut down while in sleep mode. They released a couple of firmware updates after the successor (the Sony Xperia Tablet S) came out (mostly to give it better feature parity with the newer one), but still didn't fix the wifi bug or even update the OS from Ice Cream Sandwich to Jellybean. There have been no updates for a long time for it and there are unlikely to be.
