Thank you, I think I'll pass on it then. And thank you for posting the Charlotte Stein book, grabbed it, heck it's free, why not!?!

Or like a Regency set in an alternate history where ladies can marry blacksmiths. Also, it helps that so many people like Tessa Dare's voice.

I've tried a lot of "Regency lite" authors who turn out to be too blah -- bland or whatever. If the authors are going to go for the "Regency Fairy Tale" experience, they might as well go into it with all cylinders. As long as they don't start adding cell phones, helicopters, and SUVs.
Exactly. I'm the opposite of you, although I grew up with Heyer and still like the occasional traditional Regency, I actually prefer "Regency lite" (great description by the way ). However, even though I prefer the more modern sounding ones with the not-true-to-the-time-setting plots, I still want that extra spark or pop in the writing and the story and that's hard to find. Tessa has it, which is why I love her books. Plus, unlike many authors, she seems to be improving the more she writes rather than suffering from sophomore slump.

I have a question and hope somebody can help. When I'm away on holidays can I buy books but not download them until I get home on my Amazon account? And my account is Canadian but I'll be in the States, will that stop me?

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking, but I'll take a stab at this. If you buy the books through a Kindle, they will download automatically since you are will have had to establish a 3G or WiFi connection to get on Amazon's site. However, you can buy books through another device that has the Kindle app on it, such as an iPhone, or you can get onto Amazon's site through a browser on a computer, and log into your own account. Then, when you buy the book, you can choose which device to send it to. So, you can buy the book on a computer, for example, but choose to send it to your Kindle. The book will not download though until you connect the Kindle to 3G or WiFi.

It's not unusual for me to have 10 or more books (freebies, I swear ) that have been purchased but not downloaded. They just stay in the cloud until I connect whatever device I have chosen to send them to.

As for Canada vs. US, I travel extensively overseas (my homebase is the US), but it doesn't matter where I am, I'm buying books from my home US account. If I turn on my Kindle in Europe and buy a book, it is charged to my US account, and I do NOT get charged the document delivery fee that is standard for accounts not in the US (I don't know about Canadian accounts), nor do I get charged VAT or anything else. Just last month, I was in Indonesia, used both my 3G and WiFi there, and bought several books.

I hope this answers your questions.

Well, I think you answered my question when you mentioned you have no problem when you're travelling. I apologize for not being clearer but thank you so much for taking the time to reply!

I should have made my usual purchasing habits more clear first. I don't have a Kindle, when I buy books I do so on my computer and convert & upload them to my devices using Calibre. So I guess I'm asking if I use a different PC from my usual, and it's based in a different country will it work? As long as I don't phycially download the book I buy to that computer but just leave it as a purchase in my account so I can download when I get home. Did I clarify that well enough?

You should be fine if it's just the U.S. People go to and from Canada to U.S. everyday. I don't think Amazon will have a problem with it.

I forgot to mention that it wasn't at the Kindle store, Nook, Sony, Kobo too. It's strange that it showed up first at Smashwords.

I'll add the Kindle, Nook, etc links when they show up.

FREE SHORT STORY - Stranded with a Scotsman by Serenity Woods (Samhain author)

Quote:
A romantic short story. Cori Spencer doesn't particularly mind being stuck in a refuge hut three feet above the rising tide in the middle of the night. The problem is that she's stranded in a ten-by-four-foot wooden box for four hours with Ewan Macbeth, and that's not going to end well. She's either going to kill him or kiss him-and she's not sure which option is the most likely.
Smashwords

Kindle

Nook

Kobo

Sony

Oh, before I forget (that's why I always end up editing each of my post at least once ) a reminder that the 50% rebate offer from AllRomance ebookstore for Ransom by Julie Garwood is ending on the 15th. It's part of the Smart Bitches Book Club for this month.

Use the code SBTBARE to get the rebate at checkout.

I am sure Smashwords is the fastest to add books is why it's up there already. I think it's pretty much upload and it's up while Amazon you have to go through a process.

Well I just got enough for another free $5 Amazon gift card. Still waiting on the first one but that's $10 for books! I worked my tail off for that $10.

Sorry, after I posted, it occurred to me that you might not have a Kindle. I just assumed you did since you mentioned Amazon. Anyway, Blossom is correct. It doesn't matter what country you are physically located in when you buy, or what computer you use. Amazon will only send books to a device that is registered to your account. If you did want to get your books on a different computer, I think you'd first have to download the Kindle app to it, then register it to your account.

I'm going to visit a friend in Maryland and then we're meeting another in Pittsburgh. I'm very excited, haven't seen both since 2010. I'm going from 23rd to 29th. Though I have anxiety issues regarding missing a bunch of my wishlist books coming on sale while I'm gone!
Oh and edited to add I'm not worried about reading on vacation, won't have time, just don't want to miss any sales!

But thank you to you and worktolive for easing that anxiety, I'm all set now!

And congrats Blossom on getting your $10 credit. My turn to be nosey, is that a benefit of Prime?
