Okay, so after several tests I can say for sure that I still don't have the hang of this sync thing Sometimes it works, but more often than not I have to find the right page by myself.

For those who understand the synchronization process, do you sync from the book, the library, the home screen? Does that even matter?
Do you use the function which is displayed when pressing the wrench (from inside a book)?
Any help is welcome

I'm lost. Maybe I should try and find a user guide somewhere

Triggering the sync process from the library or the home screen carries out the same functions (as near as I can tell from looking at the packet captures though I was looking more for what I consider to be private information that may have been transmitted) while a sync from the "Sync my book activity" (firmware 2.6.1, .kepub book from the Kobo bookstore) just synchronizes bookmark, reading position, etc. information for that single book. To copy the reading position in a .kepub between my Aura and my iPad, I have to sync on the Aura to save my current reading position and then sync on the iPad to copy the reading position there. Since I mostly use my iPad for pdf manuals, I seldom read fiction on it so being unable to sync epub reading position is not a big deall

Regards,
David

Sahmy, maybe this does not apply to your case as sometimes you get the sync, sometimes you do not: however one possible solution is here:

Thank you Paola.
By trial and error, I think I've found why it wasn't working well before.
Often I was doing the sync from within the book, say on the Mini. After that I was turning off the WIFI and turning it on the Aura. But since after the last sync I let the book open, when I was having access to the WIFI and the sync menu I was putting a newer time stamp in the book which was supposed to be updated than in the one I was actually reading

So for about a week I tried to:
- close the book first,
- press the sync button,
- change ereader,-
- press the sync button while the book is closed there too.

Voilà! No more trouble so far (but I'll keep on checking longer).

Yeap, so far if I go to the home screen before synchronizing an ereader it will work just fine. It should be the same if I do the sync from within a book which is only on one of the devices.
Clearly my mistake was to prompt the sync from a book and keep it open, since I had to open (and put a newer time stamp) that book again to sync towards this device later.

To sum up, by synchronizing from the home screen only, it works all the time
