I think I remember there being some Kathleen Eagle fans on this thread?

The Last True Cowboy (Avon/1998) is on sale from HarperCollins for $1.99
Kindle | Kobo | Nook

Quote:
A cowboy is as good as his word,
but what if the words are "I love you?"

The first moment Julia Weslin sees K.C. Houston, she senses her world is about to be turned upside-down. The long, lean cowboy is the last of an untamed breed of ment who live aby their word and love by their own set of rules. And for Julia, who has returned to Wyoming and the cash-strapping High Horse Ranch, K.C. is a dream come true. He can tame a sprited horse with just a single touch, he offers to help save the ranch, and he awakens in her a need she thought she'd lost. But Julia knows that this sexy drifter would never break a promise, and while he's filled her days with loving and her nights with passion...he's never told her that he'd stay forever.

There's another Amazon Local voucher code deal (posted by gabby98). There are a variety of romances mixed into the list of 30 books including a Tiffany Snow and several old Dorchester titles available for $1 each.

Does anybody know if there's a way to tell if a Kindle book is a Topaz file? Last time I bought 1 of these older Dorchesters it was Topaz, I would prefer not to go that route again.

If the size is over a Meg good chances are it's a topaz book. Now this does not apply to newer books which can be KF8 with embedded fonts but if you see it on the old books it's a topaz.

Here's an example look under Product details

See the file size? This was published in 2006 this tells me it's a Topaz.

Here's another Topaz example.

Thanks! I just looked at the 2 Topaz books I previously purchased. Both were just over 2 MB. Going by these guidelines only a few on Dorchesters offered on the $1 deal would be suspect.

Another fool proof method is to send the sample to your Kindle and see if you can change the font.

Or

I can send the sample to K4PC then look in the Kindle content Folder and using Alyssa's thumbnail handler it shows all books that are mobi/KF8 but a Topaz book wont show a cover thumbnail and when you check the mobi tab under properties it will tell you it's not a valid mobi file.

I've attached an example of the K4PC method.

A Cowboy for Christmas by Lori Wilde
A Jubilee, Texas Novel 03

Quote:
It's Christmastime in Jubilee, Texas, but Lissette Moncrief is having a hard time celebrating . . .

Especially after she accidentally smashes her car into Rafferty Jones's pick-up truck. Yes, he's a whole lot of handsome—from the tips of his boots to the top of his Stetson. But he's no Christmas present. Lissy's not about to let herself get whisked away by his charming ways and words . . . only to watch him drive away in the end.

But what Lissy doesn't know is Rafferty's in town just to meet her—and to give her a share in a windfall that doesn't rightly belong to him. At first, he just wants to do his good deed and get out. But one look at this green-eyed beauty has him deciding to turn this into a Christmas to remember . . . making promises he's determined to keep—whether she believes in them or not.
As you know I am currently reading this series. I highly recommended it if you are looking for something emotionally satisfying. This is the third book in the series. So for those of you collecting these as they've gone on sale. Here you go!

I have that problem too - especially with my new must read sample before one-clicking policy! I've somehow managed to hold off on Lick, but there have been at least two recently I read the sample, bought and kept reading, TBR and current books be-darned!

I need to get better at sticking to my TBR - four books in process at about 30%.

Courting His Countess US DE by C.J. Archer.

Quote:
The last woman Thomas, Lord Avondale, expected to fall in love with was the wife he betrayed and abandoned six years ago. When Rose doesn't accept his apology, however, he loses all hope of a happy future together. Yet he's thankful she has agreed to come to his bed to beget an heir.

Known as the Ice Maiden at Queen Elizabeth I's court, Rose has been trying to forget the man she once loved—a love she thought destroyed after he spent their wedding night with his mistress. Withstanding Thomas's charms, however, is proving more difficult than she expected.

Can she forgive the ultimate betrayal?

Can he ever atone for what he did?

Note: Courting His Countess is a novella of approximately 20,000 words, about one-quarter the size of a full-length novel. I've priced it as low as I am able.

It is longish for a novella (which is great for the buildup of the romance), it is not rushed and it is beautiful. Loved it! I got it from the library but now I want my own copy.

I first came across The Story Guy via one of my GR friends (whose reviews I trust implicitly) and I knew I had to read it. It is a very emotional book (I definitely had sniffle-y moments) but satisfying as well. Yes, there is sad and bittersweet (though not in the way you may be thinking), but it does end on a very deserved sweet sigh.
