Collections all dissapeared

Hi, a bit of a strange one.

I turned wireless on this morning to get some new books I'd ordered from Amazon. The books came down fine, but all my collections had gone. Restarted, no change. Connected to PC and looked at the .json file, it was empty (file size zero).

Fortunately I'd done a full backup a couple of weeks ago, so I loaded the .json from that, then re-did the few moves I'd made since.

So, I'm back in operation now, but would rather like to know what happened. Just one of those things? Something I did? Something Amazon did?

For certain, I'm going to copy the .json file immediately before turning wireless on again!

I don't know why they disappeared, but as long as you are syncing to Amazon, they will backup your collections, so you won't lose them in the event of a Factory Reset. You can even import your collections to other Kindles on your account. From the help page:

Quote:
To import a collection from another Kindle:
Select "Archived Items" from the Kindle Home screen.
Select "Add Other Device Collections" from the Archived Items page.
Select "OK" to confirm.

Note: Importing a collection from another device does not import the books or other items to your Kindle if they aren't downloaded already. However, books already on your Kindle that are associated with a collection will automatically appear under that collection name on your Home screen.

Thanks, I saw that but couldn't see them in Archived Items. Wireless was on when they went, so I'm guessing that the last sync'd file was the empty one.

Most likely a hiccup on Amazon's servers. I bet in a few hours they'll reappear.

If you de-register and then re-register your Kindle, the Collections will reappear. At least that worked for me.
