I can't get calibre (latest 9.37 osx) to send to device (i-tunes). It doesn't recognize my ipad mini. I tried my first gen ipad and got the same result. I can save to disk and save to the books folder in itunes, then they don't show up in itunes and I have to manually select them again to put them in the itunes playlist. From there I can finally get the book to the ipad either manually or by sync. Seems like it used to just happen with send to device, but now, no send to device. I've also updated to the latest itunes for osx 11.0.4.

I also went to the calibre manual and followed all those instructions about selections in the plugins preferences. So now what?

Is there another epub reader that will just directly load for an ipad?

I use Megareader on my ipad mini. It seems to work well. Not only does it interface with feedbooks and other public domain sources, but you can run the calibre content server and Megareader will automatically detect it on a local wifi network, and then you can download straight into Megareader, or export it to any app on the iPad, such as iBooks for epubs, or Kindle for mobi files.

It's definitely worth the $1.99 pricetag, IMHO.

Does Megareader respect the CSS? Given the screen shots from the app store, I'm thinking maybe not.

The iOS iPad reader that has the most integration to Calibre is Marvin. I have switched to using this in preference to MegaReader. It definitely offers the option to use the book CSS or its own default CSS. It is free so costs nothing to try it out.

See this thread in the Plugins subforum - your Mini device ID is probably not recognized. Follow the directions in 'My iDevice is still not recognized by calibre'.

I like Marvin, I just wish it was a universal app because I like reading on my Iphone sometimes.

Another good one if you like Text to Speech is Voice Dream Reader because it has some really awesome voice engines from Acapela and NeoSpeech.

iPad mini apps aren't oversize mobile phone apps. They're specially design and developed for iPad. And there are hundreds to choose from.
