That is great, but this is a Smashwords sale. Nothing to do with Amazon. If you are a Smashwords author, you can take advantage of free advertising with this Smashwords sale.

oops,sorry - I was reading another thread about July sales in another forum and thought that this was similiar. Can't do Smashwords for D&D unti Sept 1 - and after my experience with The Snarls I may do Draft2Digital for D&D when it comes off kdp select.

I use this sale to buy books whose descriptions interest me but whose authors are unknown. This was how I was introduced to VydorScope's books originally and have been buying them since.

BUT I do have a complaint -- not about VydorScope or his books, but in general -- which is that too many authors are putting up the second or third book, not the first book, in a series as the steeply discounted book. In my case, I simply pass over these authors and books no matter how enticing the description. Why would I buy book 2 at a discount when I haven't yet read book 1?

I think authors need to think carefully about which books they discount during the sale and how much of a discount they give. If the book is usually $7.99, a 25% discount is insufficient for me to buy the book. I am looking for pricing at $1.99 or less because I am using the sale to "meet" new authors. If I like what I buy at the sale, I will return and buy additional books from the author at a higher price (but I personally will not go beyond $5.99, largely because I already have a TBR pile that is excessively large and so use that cutoff to limit how many more books I add to it).

Anyway, regardless of what you do, as a reader I encourage authors to use this opportunity to

rework and improve the description of their book
improve the tagging and make the tagging more comprehensive so the book is more likely to be found in a search
gain new readers by making their book irresistible in every way possible, including appropriate pricing

Last year what I noticed was that a flat discount to ALL of my books made buyers much more likely to buy all four at once instead of just one or two.

We shall see if that repeats this year.

I reduced mine to $1 each. Last year, I got them in for completely free, but it didn't translate into improved sales. Hopefully I'll get some this time around.

And maybe upload some entirely new stuff.
