It all depends, if, and when, they launch a new ereader, and not just in the US. There is a whole world outside the US.
Saying that the Amazon infrastructure will take some beating. I can buy a DRM free book anywhere and email it to Amazon who will convert it if need be, and deliver it to my Kindle, and store it for me. Last edited by Josieb1; 06-25-2013 at 11:58 AM. |

Google partnered with Nexus and they are doing well. So this does not mean the end of the world. It could be the beginning of something good. You have no evidence to prove that this is the end because there isn't any.

Are they? Do Google make a profit on Nexus devices?

You cannot say that this is the end because we've not seen what B&N will be doing with the next devices. All we know for sure is that B&N is saying that there will be new devices.

Would you partner with B&N? Nope, thought as much. Nook is history. ![]() |

There's no way you can say the nook tablet is history with facts to back it up. |

I hope they can recover from the body-blow the Nook write-downs are giving them. I think it's a good sign that they did lower the price, though. They recognized that something was wrong and are moving on. So that's encouraging.
Admittedly, it is about the only bright spot. The worst (for me) would be is if they come back with an Windows RT tablet. Nothing I have will run on those, so I absolutely wouldn't be buying one. I don't think this is likely, though. They'd have to redo their entire ecosystem. |

"leaving third-party partners to build future Nook devices"
I wonder how exactly that will work out. |

Well, if the HD/HD+ are the swan song for the Nook-Android tablets then they've done a terrific job with the hardware. And right now, with full access to Google Play, I think the Nook HD is the best tablet in the 7-8" category, assuming you don't need a camera/gps. I'm glad I was able to get one of these at the good sale prices.
It's too bad B&N faltered with marketing and, on the software side, keeping things closed to Google Play for too long. Had they not done that and planned ahead with more foresight, they might have been able to survive independently much longer. The co-branded tablets, if they materialize, will be interesting. But as Rbneader said, if it's a Windows-based tablet, I don't think I'll have any interest in it. Hopefully they keep it in the Android family. --Pat |
