Hours of frustration? I haven't had David's utility screw up my Kobo yet but since I tend to a lot of the "let's try this and see what happens" actions, I have done quite a few factory resets. I do a database backup as the first step when using the utility and a database integrity check before disconnecting but that's just my personal paranoia showing. Like most people in IT, the comment that applies best is "I know I'm paranoid, I just don't know if I'm paranoid enough".

With 1700 books, it takes less than a hour to do a factory reset, update firmware, reload all books and series info and be back to reading.

There are times when I am tempted to purchase another Aura to be used for reading but stomp on the temptation since it would simply give me another device to experiment on.

David

Just got 2.6.1b. Previously was on 2.5.2 and have been patiently waiting for 2.6.1 to become available for me. When it was finally given to me I see I've got the new 2.6.1b. I can't compare it to 2.6.1a since I never had that.

The only change I've noted so far is the ability to display .png images. There are likely quite a few other changes other than the ones that appear to support one or two not yet available to the public Kobo devices but I haven't found them as yet.

Are the touch buttons for Library/bookstore/reading life schewed wrong? or are they normally justified to the left and not centered. It seems awkward and I cannot recall if this was the same way when the first release of the firmware came out.

Kobo seems to have decided to left justify things in the UI. This started with the Aura and is new to the Glo with 2.6.1.

The Library/Bookstore/Reading Life are not evenly spread across the page but are built out from the left margin. This was changed from 2.4.1 to 2.5.0 on the Aura. I thought another item would be added on that line but that doesn't seem to have happened.

On chapter transitions, the first page of a new chapter is blank? When i page forward and back, the page is displayed. May be related to longer chapters?

Well I have one word for that. Hideous. It is very very ugly and seems to stink of laziness on the coders part.

Not exactly, but I have noticed that some pages are starting halfway or two-thirds down the screen when the css coding is the same as that used for pages that start at the top of the screen. This seems to be a new issue, at least for me.

I am curious is this with legit Epubs or scanned to epub format? Or is it any epub period? I have noticed that some epubs mainly scanned to epub format seem to have some interesting formatting issues......

I did some more digging, and the issue is slightly different than I first indicated. Whenever a new page (usually a chapter, but not always) is loaded, the text starts halfway down the page, no matter what the css says. I am currently reading a book that uses a top margin of 1em for the title (and for things like the copyright page). Instead, every new chapter starts halfway down the page. Subtitles and other text within each chapter display just fine, and respect the css margins.

This is with side-loaded epubs.

Edit: They are legit epubs, not scanned.

I use a polishing plugin for Calibre that polishes up some of the issues with an Epub I wonder if it might sort the issue out you are having, you would have to remove the book from your ereader and then restart the ereader and then push the book once again to your reader before any changes would occur on the reader. (well for me that's how I have fixed some issues, and maybe you wont have to delete and restart etc just how I do it I guess.)

I looked at the epub in Sigil and noticed that it was padding-top that is set to 1em. Margin-top is 0. The <body> tag has no margins set, either within the tag itself or in the CSS. I fiddled around with the CSS, saved it, deleted the book off my reader and reloaded it, but the issue remains. I haven't looked very deeply into whether it is affecting a few epubs or a lot of them, because it's a minor annoyance at this point, but thought I'd mention it because someone else noticed a completely blank page at the beginning of every chapter, and I thought it might be related.

Is there an xpgt file in this epub? It would appear in the Misc section in Sigil. xpgt files can set a big top margin for the first page of a chapter.
