I have 3 books like that on my Aura home screen and previously had 4. I have been just leaving them there so I could try and see why when time permits.
It happened when I sent books, and at first they were marked new and I got an error when I tried to open them.

Plus the second square at the top now just says [title] in the middle and [description] at the bottom.

I don't use the home screen much so I am not to bothered. Just saying.

The reason why I "Love" my Kobo is because it does all that I need. I hated reading with a clip on light. My husband baned me reading in bed with a clip on light. I do not use the dictionary, bookmarking and so on... I have maybe five books at a time on my Glo and I just read in bed at night. I have insomnia and read all night when it is really bad. The Kobo keeps me from glaring at the ceiling all night. Yes, I love having my Glo. Most people wont understand this. Sorry.

I do hope that your issues are resolved soon.

I do not find this forum intollerant or one sided. There are "passionate" people on both sides of the fence. A large amount of the threads here are from people who have issues with firmware or other problems. I do think Kobo listens and monitors the opinions here. I remember so many people fussing about the black band on the bottom of the screen because it was wasted space. I never found it to be a problem. Now, kobo removed it in the last firmware update. Well, we now have cones on the bottom of the screen. Yes, it would be nice to fully customize your reader, bottom line. But.. I don't know any eink reader that does this.

No...it is not perfect but I would take take the Kobo any day over my old ereader with no integrated light. Just Saying..

A couple of things to note though. Much of the criticism is focussed on the "Extras". Kobo notes, on the extras screen, "that they're not officially supported by Kobo." I enjoy these games on the commute and wish that they were better, but Kobo does make it clear that they are not a core feature of the device (and presumably do not receive much TLC).

As for the UI, I agree that it isn't perfect. I disagree with the bit about anyone being able to design one that makes "everybody happy if not drool." Kobo has gone through several designs on their eink based readers. There's always a group who's happy with the changes, another group who hates the changes, and a bunch who don't really care. Stuff like that is really in the domain of opinion: noone's really right and noone's really wrong. I, for one, like the new tiles interface. I can also understand why some people don't like the tiles interface. A large part of the difference is because of how individuals use the device.

Please understand: no mater how right you think you are, you are just as wrong as the rest of us.
I don't think you need to turn off your Rant Pinket. you have the right to express yourself as you see fit. Not everyone of us will agree with you or disagree with you either. However there are many pigheaded people here who think the only opinion that is the right opinion is them no ifs buts or anything about it.

You make very good points and it bears repeating as often as possible.

The same space is still there at the bottom, Kobo has just removed the option to turn it black as many people liked. They gave people a choice and then took it away, they gave us a back bar and took it away. Still my mini and Aura are nice enough to do until someone comes out with others in the same size range.

I understand you didn't mean the love thing literally, it's just an expression.

Thank you. I guess they won't be, but turning up the heat now and then will maybe get a few solved.

Me neither. Been here to short to judge that anyway.

I know they do, but they follow the madness of the day, much like politicians do. (title-bar in, title-bar out, light on bottom, light on top etc..).
They should make a roadmap of where they want to go, instead of making ad-hoc decisions. They could make a lot of criticism disappear with giving the user as much configurability as possible.
And they definitely need better UI designers. No joke.

Kobo could win a lot of market by being the first.
We can't let them off the hook just because other companies don't bother.

Agree 100%. I really like the Glo too. I would even buy it again if it broke. I just feel it deserves some more love software wise.

BTW, sorry to hear about your insomnia. I had it for years so I know what you're saying.

Greetings,

One would think it would be impossible to further screw up the brightness functionality, but one would think wrong!

At night I like to turn down the Glo's light a bit and play one or two games of Sudoku before I go to sleep.
But somehow the devs forgot there is no topbar in Sudoku, so there's no way to access the brightness settings.
Very interesting points. Since the Aura is my first lighted ereader, I've only know the light controls as you see them now.
Without comparison, it was fine (failure #2) and I don't feel the need to change the light level when playing sudoku or word scramble (failure #3). But I clearly see your points and yes the extras don't have a top bar menu, so there is no way to control the light from there.
Hopefully you'll see improvement in the next firmwares

Nice rant! But it is irresponsible of you to just stop and not cover more annoyances and ergonomic disasters :-)

Just to get you rolling:Try to use a translation dictionary and let us know what you think about the ergonomics of that process ...

Thanks for the support.

I will keep posting critique as long as this OS is a joke.

I will also be the first to thank and praise Kobo every time they give the user more control, and for every real UI improvement. (please don't take the first literally )

Greetings,

Mike

Thanks.

Talking about ergonomics, please stop Quoting the entire OP, it's giving everybody Repetitive Scroll Injury.

And the more I read my own OP, the more I wish I had written it differently.

Would want to take the Sketchpad part out because if one doesn't use it, it won't be on the Screen.

I was experimenting with the new FW and by accident found out that the drawings were saved as books. Had to see what more consequences it would have and because it was quite a lot it got a bit to much attention, and I ran out of time to look for other stuff.

But I promise I will continue and I will look into the library process.

Greetings,

Mike

I'm very used to making use of Sony's version of Sketchpad and spoiled by it. Kobo's version is pretty crippled though. It's a very nice feature when done properly, not just for doodling.

With Sony's drawing utility, you have full editing control over it, including an eraser in case you need to change something. And when you save it, it's saved in its own drawing section and doesn't get added to your books. You can bring it up again, edit it, resave it. Kobo adding it to your library as a book really doesn't make any sense and makes it annoying to use, even if you never needed to correct something.

I use it when needing to know various show times to plan our day around lakefront walks, I'll list the various showtimes for us. Find a reference to something really odd and weird during the day and want to know more about it, but you're nowhere you can look it up... jot it down as a note on a drawing and look it up later when you're home.

So it's a nice feature to have, but Kobo needs to do some serious thinking about what is usable and what is just nonsense in its current state.

Well today it moved down although still the same size. And the above error (new and now downloading) was there for a week while the added books tile was ok.

Maybe it (the Aura) is saying quit your whining or I'll really give you something to complain about.

I'll try and take a picture perhaps to see what it progresses to next.
