Can anyone confirm that the KT doesn't recognise the books stored on the SD card? He just ignores the SD card. Only after pulling it out and inserting it in several times (up to ten), he will eventually take note of it. Sometimes he complains that the card is not formatted FAT 32 (which is not true), but then will open the books despite of it.

Has anyone similar experiences?

Actually, I try to syncronize the reader at the Kobo desktop, but there seems to happen absolutely nothing (only the sync-wheel turning).

Edit: Fw. 2.6.1 (since yesterday)

I don't see it as bad as that. The main issue I have is slipping as I push the card in and it comes out or seems to registers twice. I see the not FAT32 message a lot but it does ad the books. I suspect this is caused by the bad inserting.

I have had this a couple of times recently and ended up killing the desktop app. Each time, it worked correctly on the next try.

Well, this might happen. But in my case, I used to never exit the SD-card, and over many months, it worked without any issues. I have only been forced to pull it off and insert it again when I noticed that at the booting under 2.6.1 there were shown no books of the SD-card, neither on the home screen, nor in the bibliotheque. But, even handling it as carefully as possible, things became really hard. And even having achieved that the reader finally took notice of the SD-card, at last, when I run the reader down and start it again, the SD-card is lost again, even not having removed it before. It's just like the slot (or the contacts of the SD-card) would be damaged. But this can scarcely be, as the card has always been safely in the reader. And it works properly under calibre.

In each case, this cannot be the future state of my reader.

Yes, at last I acted the same way, and then it worked again.

i'm already running 2.6.1. whenever i sync now, it usually ends up with my device freezing to a point where i have to hold the power button down for 10 seconds or so to make it restart. any ideas what would be causing this?

i've had this happen 3 times now. one time in between it worked as it should without freezing.

Leading life.

When I press Reading life in the main screen, I get a screen saying "Leading life settings".

Seeing what they've done in this last firmware, I would almost interpret this as a Freudian typo.

By the way, where can I complain/rant about this firmware?

I know I can't do it here, but some things need to be said about this horrible piece of firmware.

It's causing all kinds of Windows 8 deja vu's.

So can someone please guide me to the place where I can give my opinion about this?

Thanks in advance,

Mike.

Well, since in Japanese, there is one letter R/L (between those two, but neither are exactly what Japanese use), it wouldn't surprise me if it was that
Some other languages have the same issue, but since kobo is owned by rakuten and now support japanese language, it's a reasonable guess they have japanese programmers.

Btw, if you wanna complain, create a thread. Just make a topic for what you want to write about...that's what forums are all about.

Thanks for the info.

After some minutes of consideration I decided not to start a rant/complain thread, since I believe negative thoughts and words can only lead to a negative outcome.
I will just revert to a previous FW. I was happy with 2.5.0.

Thanks

Pinke; it's funny but when I first saw the new f/w, I wasn;t happy withg it either.

But living with it for a bit, it's really grown on me.

Sure, unlike many here, I've never used any of the various hacks / tweaks people had posted that worked on older f/w levels, and I read almost entirely in ePub format, and yes, there are issues, but all in all I have grown to like it a lot.

Exactly where do you see this line? What language do you have set on your Kobo? I tried Japanese, French and Spanish and didn't see "Leading Life settings" Clicking Reading Life on the home screen, I get Reading Stats and Awards, no settings. Checking in the settings menu, I see Reading Life and Notifications. Opening that I see Reading Life and Kobo Notifications.

Why not here? Quite a few other posters complain about Kobo firmware here. The only thing I ask of you is not to keep posting the same complaint over and over. It's just as annoying as the people who never seem to have any problems and keep saying so.

Please not here :-) This thread was created precisely because other firmware threads such as this one and others quickly become so overrun by complaints that it is hard to find information about what is actually new in the firmware.

I got a shelf that only synchronizes in 2 steps, if first time in Calibre, I get 3 books in it, if I select same shelf- and put it on the Aura with Calibre again, I get 8...
Irrational number of books on shelves have been popping up, same shelves, no metadata changed, can sync totally, can have any less number of books than total. Anyone noticed anything similar?

Is this on the Glo? I can't find any problem on my Glo: Pressing "Reading Life" from the home screen pops up a menu with "Reading Stats" and "Awards". If Reading Life is turned off in the settings then I get a screen with a link to "Reading Life Settings", but everything appears to be spelled correctly.

Have you tried creating the shelves on the device and syncing with the Kobo server, without using Calibre? If it only happens with Calibre-created shelves then it is more likely a Calibre bug rather than a firmware one.
