Sideload it. It's easy.

Syncing did nothing for me. It still shows last sync date of 5/11 (the day I registered the device). I downloaded the update from mobileread and side loaded it. After nearly having a heart attack thinking it was bricked, it finally got out of the smiley face screen into the new home screen. I love it! I wanted the Aura just for that screen so now I can be content (for now).

I finally got the update on both my glo and Aura today, that is 11 days I think since it was first released (got it on my mini on day one).
On the Glo for epubs I get one less line on a page at the font I normally read at with FW 2.5.1 but get two more lines than I do with 2.5.2. The same on the Aura, I get one less line on the page with 2.6.1 than with 2.5.1 but it is two more than on 2.5.2. For me at least I am glad to see the book title gone from the top of every page on epubs, so I can get the extra lines of text on the page. Those that do want the title have the option to convert to kepub with the extended calibre plugin, I consider this a good compromise and I will be staying with 2.6.1 Also nice to see the PDF ghosting issue is also fixed in 2.6.1 as others have already mentioned. |

I just got the update today on my Glo, purchased at Powell's in Portland in early March. I'm not big on the tiled look for the home screen, but I can live with it.
I miss smiling Kobo on my sleep screen. Since I got my Kobo, I've felt like the UI typefaces and icons gave the Kobo a warmer, friendlier, slightly whimsical feel as compared to my Nooks. Smiling Kobo on the sleep screen was part of that. Of course, this is extremely subjective, and it doesn't detract from my usage of the device. |

If they are gone from the Touch with 2.6.1 (or will be gone with newer firmware versions), I will not update the Touch. So, yeah, it's not just you. ![]() |

Wife's Glo finally got the update today. It was bought at Costco Canada in February.

Wait....so the smiley-face standby guy is gone in 2.6.1??
![]() Is the face gone from the Mini and Touch, or just the (newer) Glo and Aura? |

Yes, I also miss the happy kobo faces. I'm glad it's not just me. The first time I saw the sleep screen after the update I had to look at my glo again as I thought it was broken. Then I noticed the 'sleeping' text at the bottom of the screen. It looks like they are going for a more serious sort of design in the new update, but I wish there was room for the happy kobo graphics. I thought they added personality.

Could somebody please tell me whether the generic cover image for kepub.epub on the home screen and the library is back again? Or is there still only a blank space with a small dot in the middle?
By generic cover image I mean the title of the book framed by a double line and which is displayed if the book doesn't have its own cover image. |

I only update if there is something I see that I want or need. I actually prefer to sideload. When I was attempting to sync, it became clear to me that the kobo was very busy uploading data to the mothership, as I soon received an email of recommended reads, based on content that is on my device. Coincidence? I don't think so. I don't plan to try to sync again. So if there is an update in the future that I want, I will sideload it, but, I don't plan to update..."if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" |
