Question Missing/incorrect words in fetched news

Sometimes the news that Calibre emails to my kindle contains strange errors.

For instance, at this page, in the post entitled "Google’s Balloon-based Internet Dream," the last paragraph ends, "a bit flim-flammy or sometimes, just plain nuts."

But once it gets to my kindle, it reads "a bit film-flamy or in sometimes, just nuts." That's two misspelled words, one added word, and one missing word.

What's going on? Couldn't find anything in a search of the forum. Thank you.

Alright someone else definitely has to chime in here... but here is my completely wild guess based on the pattern I perceive.

Added Word: is the article's language being translated? That is the only way I can imagine a word being added into the text.

Altered Word: "Flim-flammy" is not in the spellcheck dictionary, so it was assumed to be a compound word - "film" and "flamy" were the nearest entries when another search was performed. So instead of "dubious" you got "flaming film".

Spellchecking and/or translation seems to be the culprit. Double check any language settings (import or export) or news processing before being emailed.

I cannot advise you further, but maybe someone else will come along and recognize these symptoms.

Is there any chance the article has been updated since it was first posted? Some of the differences could be errors that were fixed in an update. I'd try running the news download again and seeing if the results were different.

This makes the most sense. Downloading via recipe does not alter the content, editors and proofreaders do.

Sorry if I misdirected the resolution effort. Honest to goodness human interaction instead of automated alterations... who'ld a thunk it?

BTW, I didn't mean to imply calibre was commiting errors in translating. I thought the website itself was guilty. Or a 3rd party translation service. Because you see these kinds of errors in such situations.

My sentiments exactly.

Truly the possibilities for many problems here seem to be many and varied, that is why it is great to have multiple input into these problems.

I read over the initial post and didn't respond because all I could think of was calibre doesn't (usually) alter any words. Not at all helpful info since the OP obviously found differences between the article and what was downloaded. It never occurred to me that the article might have been downloaded at one time and compared at a later time.
