TOC listed in the TOC?

Hello fellow Sigil users,

I'm new to Sigil and ebook creating in general, so please bear with me.

I'd like to tell Sigil to list the TOC page as the last item of the TOC. Like this example:

________
Foreword
Chapter 1
...
Chapter 27
TOC
________

The reason for this. In my reading device (kindle PW) a book with many chapters needs scrolling in the navigation pop up. It's unwieldy.

Instead, I'd like to click on the TOC link if it were listed and go to the TOC page in the book.

Hence the question: any ideas how to tell Sigil to list the TOC page as the last item in the TOC? I'm creating the epub from a HTML-file, the TOC is created from Sigil through the headers, and afterwards I convert it to .mobi using calibre. It all works excellent - apart from the missing TOC entry.

Any pointers?

The bonus would be, to put the extended TOC page upfront, rather than at the end.

Many thanks and as always, happy reading!

Tools: Table of Contents: Make HTML TOC
Now move the TOC.xhtml file (in the book browser) to the end of the text section.
No regenerate the NCX (TOC)
Tools:Table of Contents: Make TOC (or use the Icon)

(Now Repeat) Tools: Table of Contents: Make HTML TOC It will now show the TOC entry that we fudged in in the prior 2 steps

Given what you want the ToC entry for in the popup ToC, why not put the ToC entry first? Putting it last means you still have to scroll to get to it.

Hi there,

thanks for pointing out the "generate HTML TOC" - function, it did the trick.

Cheers, miquele

Miquele, are you actually putting the html TOC at the back of the book? Won't this defeat the "synch to last page read" feature in your Paperwhite?

Actually, I put it upfront, b/c that is where I feel a TOC should reside.
Thus, I don't know about your question (in fact, I don't sync side-loaded or self-created content at all).

Some author-publishers do put the TOC at the back, for a variety of reasons. I haven't tested this, but it seems to me that if ever a reader should go to the TOC, then Amazon would regard that as the "last page read." All Kindle devices (all that I know of) have an option for the reader to go to "last page read." So, instead of returning to my expected placed in Chapter N, I would find myself every time at the TOC. That wouldn't be all bad, but it might annoy someone who regularly uses this feature.

(I agree that it belongs in front, quite apart from the synching issue.)

I you're "publishing" a very strong argument for putting a HTML toc at the front (and maybe breaking convention by moving other lengthy front matter to the back) is Amazon's "Look Inside" feature. The pages shown need to sell the content. No-one's interested in dedications, copyrights etc.

I sometimes buy a Big Six book with the copyright in the back, so this wisdom has percolated to their formatters as well. I am even now revising one of my books to get rid of the Prologue. Two paragraphs will be moved to Chapter One, and the rest will go to Notes & Sources in the back.
