kinde 3 no greyscale

I ran the fbgnuboy through a terminal which failed because the script was pointing to the wrong direction. I exited but then I realized there was no grayscale. ALl of the screensavers look weird and all my books and everything. I already did a couple of hard resets. I would rather not do a factory reset as it took forever to get my kindle where it is now. Any suggestions?

What **else** did you do to your kindle? And in general, a "factory reset" is not going to do what you expect it to from its name.

Funny, looks like some kind of "palette" got modified. I'm pretty sure that fbgnuboy can _not_ do this at all - it is a simple userland program, not doing kernel level stuff. In the worst case, I'd say Kubrick it. Though I still don't buy that there wasn't done anything else (or the "use usbnetworking" should be a bit more detailed) ;-)

I just got it two days ago and I have not done too much with it. I was just reading it normally last night. I just noticed this problem after i ran fbgnuboy. I know that they can do some kind of "dithering" so one can get 12 fps which makes it no greyscale whatsoever. also i was using myTS and I couldn't get out. had to hard reset while i was in root rw mode. I really haven't done al that much with it. By "use usbnetworking" i mean connect it to my mac and try to get it to recognize it as a device with usbnetworking on. I was opposed to do that by itself according to the kiterm tutorial.

hm, having it left r/w might be a problem. Myts is also active on every boot. The dithering in fbgnuboy just means that it will only write black and white pixels, but this done by doing exactly this: only displaying black and white pixels. The display or display driver is not put in any special mode for archieving this (I should know, I ported fbgnuboy). Maybe your root partition is mangled. Kubrick should put that back in order again. |

Is that the only way to fix it? btw great work on the emulator. when I use it in kual launcher it tells me that the main binary is not installed and reverts back to failsafe. I checked the folder and the binary is there. Sorry for getting a bit off topic

You must have had the root file system set "rw" for a reason . . . . What things did you change, add and/or modify? Those actions are more likely to be the cause.

i was trying to install ipkg tool. I was using it to read today because one can still read but the fonts just look weird. all of the sudden the page wouldn't turn and it was unresponsive. I used kubrick but it won't even reboot. I can mount the kindle however on my computer

In the process, something got overwritten or replaced in the system files. Debrick it, using Kubrick. If it is a K3 - it should take at least two hours to re-flash the system image. If it doesn't - then something is wrong. Then to re-boot it after using Kubrick - you may have to hold the power switch for a very long time - as much as 30 minutes has been reported on some devices. Follow the instructions in the first post of Kubrick and the on-screen instructions **VERY CAREFULLY** - - Starting with the "re-charge on wall charger for at least 20 hours" instruction. Report what happens when using Kubrick. In much more detail than: "I used it and it didn't work" Please. You gotta give us some details to work with, no one here can help you in a vacuum of information. Last edited by knc1; 06-16-2013 at 08:33 PM.

Sorry what I meant was that i flashed the root filesystem but i guess i didnt't wait long enough for it to reboot. I had already had the green light when I put it on the charger so I'm assuking that is not the problem. I checked my kindle after it was done and it had the exact same files as before. is it only supposed to touch the root filesystem?

I held the power button for as long as it took (20mins) like you said and I have full battery but the problem with the screen remains. to get it into usb downloader mode should i see anything special on the screen?
