Problem adding html books

Hi,

I am a new (about 6 months now) Calibre user who just received several books in html format. I'm having a problem adding them to my library.

I click add books and point calibre to the folder which contains 2 files: book.html and a .jpg image of the book cover. Then I click ``Open``

When I try to read the added book, I notice that the format is listed as ZIP, and when I open the book, instead of Calibre opening the reader and showing me the book, it opens Peazip (my zip archiver) which shows a zip archive containing a bunch of stuff the original html folder never had, like a opf file, a metadata folder and some other stuff. If I then open book.html, it opens in my browser. If I wanted to use my browser as my reader, I would still be using 5 different readers instead of just Calibre.

How can I get Calibre to just import the book and show it to me without all the extra stuff happening?

Preferences->Behavior->Use internal viewer for: check ZIP

The factory setting for ZIP is unchecked

Calibre Ebook-Viewer dynamically converts non-EPUB formats to EPUB providing it's checked in that list, otherwise the OS file type association program is used to open the file.

Many (most ?) people who use Calibre convert most other formats to create an EPUB file, including ZIP, PDF being a notable exception.

OK

I added zip to the viewer list. After deleting and readding the books, it works.
It still makes no sense to me,though. Why do I end up with a zip file when I started with an html file?

Often an HTML 'book' has multiple components - HTML, stylesheet, images and other media. So putting them in a zip is a way of 'containerizing' them so that they don't get separated. And it usually results in a much smaller file.

An EPUB is in fact a ZIP as are some other EBook formats.

I thought RB did, and maybe some other older formats too, happy to be corrected. I know for certain that DOCX and ODT are ZIPs in disguise, but I concede they're not recognised ebook formats.
