I spent a while in a store yesterday comparing the Kobo Glo to the Aura. The Aura lighting system is way-better than the Glo's. On the glow, the leds were very visible along the top. On the Aura, I couldn't see them. The Aura screen is really nice. For $40 more than the PW, the Aura is an absolute no-brainer. A very nice e-reader. Shame no buttons. If the the Glo lighting system is better than the PW's, the Aura must way, way better.

Are you sure you weren't looking at a Nook? The Kobo Glo LEDs are along the bottom.

I prefer the amazon ecosystem due to much superior pricing, selection and reviews for ebooks. While the Aura is a slightly better reader, I recommend the PW.

Must of got mixed up. Definately Kobo only devices in that store. The Aura made the Glo look like a cheap toy, by which I mean the Aura looked pretty damn classy. Shame no buttons.

Ecosystem. Noun. Pity ecosystem, a case of what happens when good words fall in with a bad crowd. Rebecca Greenfield explains, "This reasonable science-related word has been co-opted by the tech writing community, which has senselessly ravaged it. The true meaning of the term translates to a 'biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment.' As in, the place where living things live together. To tech writers, however, ecosystem involves a lot of non-living things that just happen to share characteristics. The Android ecosystem, the app ecosystem, the tablet ecosystem, the digital ecosystem, the start-up ecosystem — it's not like at the end of the day all the little gadgets go home to their gadget neighborhoods and hang out."

Amazon does have a great ecosystem, but if you live outside the U.S. not everything that Amazon offers will be available to you.

I'm in the same boat. I'm comming from a Nook Simple touch and have decided I want a device with lighting this time. I'm torn right now between the kindle Paperwhite and the Kobo Aura. I'm a big Calibre user so I currently buy from all over and just manage my device myself (turn off WiFi side load only). So for me it's all about the hardware and how well it works with Calibre. Are there any issues with either device working with Calibre? Can you turn off the Wifi on the Kindle and the Aura?

I also sideload all books via calibre so I have never switched on the Wi-fi on either of my 2 Kobos. |

The only reason I haven't yet changed reader is that when I'm actually in a book the screen is perfect, virtually all of the screen is available for text. Just waiting for the 2013 readers to come out and hoping to find something I like. The Aura does look good but there aren't any 3rd party ultra slim covers available and of course the wasted screen space top and bottom is not for me. |

Having all of the screen available for text is a big reason that I stick with Sony and Kindle at the moment. Having text on the full screen is a deal breaker for me.

It is sounding like maybe I was leaning in the right direction (Kobo Aura) but I am concered about not being able to use the entire screen for reading. But it may be something I can live with to get the better calibre integration.

If you are using Calibre, you can take steps to eliminate wasted space at the bottom. The device itself can set your margins where you want them. The only thing you might not be able to change is the title at the top of every page. I don't have an aura, but I think the last update made it so side-loaded epubs have the title, whereas they didn't, before. Personally I like the title, even on my little Kobo Mini. I'd like to get an Aura, if I had the money I'd get one now. (But I just bought two Kobo's so I will behave and wait for Christmas).
