I seemed to have stumped everyone with this one.

How about if I tell you that's it's possible to take just four weights, and still be able to weigh anything (in whole kg) up to 20kg? And that the four weights themselves together weigh exactly 20kg?

1. I'll go with six people, 10 times a day

2. US Government?

3. Commonly held belief that nothing rhymes with Purple, though I think that was debunked on an episode of QI, though I can't remember what word(s) actually do rhyme.

I know you won't believe this, but I just took a half hour break from gardening to have a sandwich, and watched the end of an episode of QI on Sky TV. It was the very episode where they discussed the rhyme with Purple! A Twilight Zone moment, I think.

The two words are:

Hurpal (Herpal/Hirpal?) which means to drag one leg behind you

Curpal (Cerpal/Cirpal?) which is a leather harness that goes under a horse's tail.

Both are old Scottish words, apparently.
