you referring to?
You mean to say that asking for improvement from original manufacturer of the device is pointless and annoying, besides being stupid, i.e. "pissing against the wind"? And miracle workers would do well to post some Kobo bricking thingy, to get rid of people who ask?
Or that those miracle workers might actually see the value in having a file browser and undertake to make it possible?
And how do you even approach assessing "the attitude behind it"? Without ever asking me personally. I have no hidden agenda. Unless I am not aware of it...

How is the first part really different from the Sony x50 series and PRS+? I mean pretty much everyone agrees that the x50 series is great, but kind of plain and without much oomph without PRS+.
Most ereaders need a community behind them to take advantage of the hardware full potential, don't they?

iProducts are usually not bought for their quality, but to show other people how iHip and iCool you are. Since iUsers identify themselves with their iProducts you won't see any of them iComplain, that'd be like self-criticism. Plus the holy Apple is never wrong, you are. Stop holding your iDevice wrong!

Actual high quality devices (not those just marketed as high quality, like Apple's) usually offer both modes, folders and playlists.

Very few of the people I know who bought Apple iPod Touches bought them for the hip and cool factors. What impressed most of them was that they were simple to operate and the Apple ecosystem offered music, videos, books, apps and Great Ghu knows what else. There are very few Android music players so forget the application support on most of their competition. Ever updated your Facebook account from your music player? Checked your corporate email? Checked your personal email? Read a book? Purchased a book? Watched a hockey game? Downloaded the latest music video while sitting in a Blenz coffe shop?

And perhaps you could drag your language kicking and screaming into the 21st century? Hip? Cool? Next you'll be going to the coffeehouse for poetry readings after bongo drum practice.

David

Give statisticians enough paper and pencils and they'll prove anything.

As for not releasing sales figures, it appears that if you checked the British Parliament's web site, you could get the UK sales numbers for Amazon. Your public pounds at work. One site compared those figures to the estimates for Amazon's sales in the UK market for the same period and they were quite close (~2.5% variance one way or the other).

OK, so UK numbers are correct. But in the US, no numbers are released. And because of that, it's still a guess. These three sources are guessing and that's all they'll ever be able to do is guess and keep on guessing. There is no way I'll ever trust numbers based on a guess.

Given that the number for the UK were close, it suggests that the numbers for elsewhere will be fairly close as well. I'm not asking for total precision and would not bet any significant item on the accuracy but close enough for general discussion.

US and UK might be close, but there are other countries that are not close. Canada is primarily ePub. So is Russia. Those are just two examples of other countries that are not close. So overall, I'd say that if those numbers are meant to be world wide, they are incorrect.

Numbers for Canada seem to show Kobo ~ 48% of the total market, Amazon ~24%, Sony ~15% and others ~12% for total of 99% so about 75% epubs and 24% mobi. One odd item is that pdf ebooks while commonly available don't seem to have much in the line of sales. The US is still hanging in as the leading market for ereaders and ebooks though that lead is shrinking.

David
