Chess and soduko are pre-done linux modules that just had to be "plugged in". Kobo did not develop them. Kobo also does not support them. I assume you would want kobo to support the changes you are calling for.
As an aside, I don't think we are seeing what Kobo is planning for the future in our current firmware. Planning is like that. I am very much looking forward to the full implementation of ePub3 for both kepubs and epubs. That is the only thing on my wishlist for now. PS: I really don't think that anythng "we" want on MR necessarily represents what most people want. |

I followed a ink in the kobo blog (http://cafe.kobo.com/blog/kobo-share...al-performance) which led to a 45 minute presentation by Mike Serbinis summarizing 2012 and 1st q of 2013 as well as talking a bit about changes in the pipeline. http://www.media-server.com/m/p/3yxbb6q3
It gives a lot of information about their target audience and some information about plans for the future. I find presentations and slide packs by Kobo pretty interesting. Over the years they have been fairly detailed about what they know about the people who buy their devices and their behaviour with these devices. For example, as much as we love all the font choices, 80% of people use the default font, Georgia. There is also a growing data set that indicates that people who buy a device tend to buy from the associated store, even when there is a big sale on the same books by the competition. I'm betting that means that for Kobo device owners, most of those folks read kepubs. |

Well, why keep a broken Chess game on the device? If Kobo does not support this game they better remove it completely. Why did they implement it and advertise with it in the first place. It's very bad PR.

Urdu, you will have to find some other person to continue this discussion with. The browser is also not formally supported buy Kobo either, btw. Check your extras page.

Taming, I'm not seeking a discussion with you. I just wonder why Kobo implements applications that wont work, that's all. I don't see any logic in that. It just backfires to the company. Imagine buying a tablet and the only functioning app is the browser, all other apps that are implemented are not supported. You think it will sell? My advise: get rid of the extra's or support them, there's no other way.

I assume Kobo did not want to spend any money on testing (let alone fixing) these experimental apps, so they do not know if they work or not. If by luck they work then that is a bonus for us the consumer.
But now we are telling them the chess game does not work, perhaps they will remove it? |

I've noticed a small new misbehaviour since updating to 2.6.1. I have my Aura set to refresh the page on every page turn. Now, on the very first page turn after entering a book (either via waking from sleep or by selecting the book from the home screen) I get two page refreshes (black flashes) instead of one. After that each page turn causes one refresh as normal. The double refresh also occurs for the initial page draw after I select a title from the home screen, but not when waking from sleep. This behaviour is perfectly consistent and replicable.

Even stranger is that Kobo isn't supporting PDF reflow while it is part of the official RMSDK because PDF is intended to be paginated (originally). Why not ad a similar disclaimer that PDF reflow it is not officially supported but added for the convenience of our users to improve pdf reading on small screen devices? And, PDF documents are part of the main function of the Kobo devices: reading. And its also one of the most frequently asked feature request but is categorical denied by Kobo. I find this at least a bit a inconsistent. If you don't support something, well don't add it. Last edited by Anak; 06-10-2013 at 05:04 PM. |

I always figured that the extras were things that some people, but not most, perhaps, would use and enjoy but that were not needed or related to reading ebooks. More then that, Kobo support would not be problem solving or answering questions on the "extras".
Anak, tell me more about the "official RMSDK" and how support for PDF reflow is mandated in it. |
