So sorry to learn that Iain Banks has set off for Crow Road. May we meet him after sorrow's end; until then, his work will remain alive.

Very surprising and very, very sad. One of my absolute favourite Sci-Fi authors, though to my shame I've not yet read any of his mainstream work. My sincere condolences to his wife and my commiserations with all those who loved his work.

Not surprising at all, unfortunately. Perhaps you missed the announcement that he'd been diagnosed with terminal cancer a couple of months ago?

Very sad news indeed, and so soon after hearing he had cancer in the first place. It was that news that made me go and start reading his work, and I have to say we lost something important with Mr. Banks' passing. Rest in peace. |

I had just put Jack Vance on my TBR list in memorial, now I do the same with Ian Banks. Just started Gone with the Wind, so it will be a while.

Thanks for the link. I'll watch the video when I have less work I need to keep a clear head for. For those interested in reading Mr Banks mainstream work, might I recommend The Wasp Factory and Complicity. I've yet to penetrate the bulk of his non-sci-fi work, but those are the ones I finished and found very good. |
