Here in Delta, B.C. with Kobo Aura HD no update yet. Its 9:41am on Sat. Hope this update gets pushed soon. Tried Sideloading update and it never finished booting after applying update. So I'm waiting for update to happen.

Thanks Peter . . . . I do prefer to have the full screen cover showing but will follow your advice

Tis such a shame - the tiles all look rather stylish and that thing is like a giant sticker blobbed on the front

Many thanks!
Kobo's normal procedure is to roll out updates slowly which might give a chance for early adopters to scream that the update is causing issues with their devices or it may just be to keep their servers from being snowed under when every Kobo ereader updates within a short time.

I had a Glo that updated over wireless so I reverted it back to factory and then used Wireshark to capture the URL for the downloaded file when it updated connected to a computer. I then downloaded the file from the captured URL which was (I hoped, fervently) the firmware for the Aura, Glo, Mini, new Touch and tried it on my Aura. It worked so I then downloaded the file from the kobo3 directory and checked that it looked right for the old Touch firmware.

The links are posted in the Kobo Developer's Corner in the Direct Links to Kobo Firmware thread in the first message. There is also information on how to update the firmware with the downloaded package in that thread.

David

It's whatever software version was current when your ereader's internal storage was programmed. The Touch and Glo have come with several firmware revisions as the factory restore version.

Just noticing your tag line. I've always seen that one credited to Robert Bloch with a date back in the early 1950's.

That's a totally different issue and seem to be due to a bug in the Adobe Reader Mobile code when a single paragraph exceeds its maximum number of characters and the page display gets screwed up. My sample paragraph for that gives me 8 lines on one page, the next page is full and the page after has 14 lines (used that example since I don't have many books that have overly long paragraphs -- good choice in authors).

Hm. It seems like loading this firmware onto the Mini, I get a bug where the text never extends onto the space that the top menu would take up. It isn't displaying the title there; it just leaves that space empty so that the text is hanging there with lots of empty territory at the top and bottom.

That is a bug, right?

In Caliber:

When converting the ebook put the following in the 'Extra CSS' box on the 'look and feel' options page. (I.e. Select the books you want to edit, then click convert and go to the look and feel page):

p, body{
widows: 0;
orphans: 0;
}

While you're at it you may want to get rid of epub-embedded css styles too so that you can set margins, fonts etc. on the KOBO. To do that tick all boxes in the 'filter style information' tab on the same options page.

Note that you can 'convert' epub to epub in Caliber. You can save these conversion settings (somewhere in the preferences) so that Caliber uses them per default.

Calling it a bug is a judgement call. I *THINK* you will find this is by design, and is not an unintentional display.

Well, strictly technically speaking it's not a bug but a deliberate change in design.
They obviously recognized their customers' complaints about the - to some people - annoying and space wasting book title display on each page (thanks for listening KOBO) .... and then 'solved' that problem by removing the title display - without using the freed space to display more content. A somewhat pointless change since most complaints were mainly about the wasted space and not about the content (or lack thereof) with which this is filled ....

Hmm On the glos screen I notice that there is no configuring the tiles. At least I cannot see where it might be? Can you perhaps shed some light on this issue MDK?

The only configuration I've seen on an Aura is a long press on the tile to bring up the open/dismiss options. Getting rid of the Sync tile is a whole other can of worms. You do enjoy editing SQLite databases, don't you?

They did give a small amount of the space back. With FW 2.5.2 the top menu does not cover up any of the text, but with FW 2.6.1 it does cover up at least part of the top line (at least it does on my mini) so the text is closer to the top of the screen than it was in 2.5.2 but I would like to see it back the way it was in 2.5.1.
