I agree, the A&E/BBC adaptation with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle is just divine. I have the DVDs and, before I got my Kindle, I used to watch it every year. It is very true to the book; even some of the dialogue is word for word.

This is just my strong opinion but I detest the one with Keira Knightley; I think it's awful the liberties they took with it. I had to pretend I was watching a regular movie the whole time I watched it

Wow, I really liked the Kiera Knightly version. Now I will just have to see the Colin Firth version. I think you are right about watching it like a regular movie, I did that.

One of my friends loves the KK version and refuses to watch the one with Colin Firth. I get her back by not watching Oh Brother Where Art Thou, which she has been trying for years to get me to see

I loved it too. How else is one suppose to watch movie?

I didn't notice anything to pull me out of the story. I originally watched it because it had Kiera Knightly in it. I adore the guy who played Darcy though. I thought he did a great job. I would love to own it.

I too watched it because of Kiera Knightly but thought this Darcy was amazing. And I did have to get it. Every once in a while i dig it out and enjoy it every time.

I'm by no means an Austen purist (LOVE my fan-fiction - paid FULL price for one yesterday and am finishing it up tonight!), but I had a hard time getting through the 2005 adaptation, it had it's moments, but it's so hard not to compare it to the 1995 BBC miniseries (despite the 4 hour run-time difference) which was just so true to the book. Oddly though I had a lot less issues with the 1940 Laurence Olivier version, which borders on the silly at times!

Totally off-track, but if you need a laugh YouTube "Mr. Darcy I'm too sexy" - there's a version for both 1995 + 2005 adaptations.

I was interested in seeing it as a P&P adaptation. Since I felt it fell far short of that I just pretended to myself it was just a regular movie and not a P&P adaptation. And this is what I mean by watching it as a regular movie.

I am so happy for you! My husband was out of work for 18 months, and while he wasn't worried, I was terrified!
