I don't remember if I posted this one when I got it last week, decent ratings at Goodreads, $.99
Inevitable by Angela Graham
blurb:
After experiencing a humiliating breakup, twenty-two-year-old Cassandra Clarke is fresh out of college and living a simple solitary life without any intentions of pursuing love anytime soon.

When the estate next door sells, the last thing Cassandra expects is the unnerving attraction she feels for her sinfully handsome neighbor, Logan West, the young and charming single father with a playboy reputation.

It’s through Oliver, Logan’s four-year-old son, who keeps popping up in her childhood tree house, that she slowly begins to catch glimpses of the compassionate and wounded man Logan has hidden beneath his strong exterior.

Cassandra knows it's wrong and that she's heading for another heartbreak.
Logan will never be able to give her what she truly desires…love.

I don't know why everyone is so upset about 2 more books. The series could have ended here - you could believe it is a HEA. But if she is doing 2 more books, it will just go on from there. I really don't have a burning urge to read the next 2 books. For me, the first was 5 stars, the second was 2, and this one was 2 for the first 3/4 and 10 for the last 1/4. IMHO, it was a fantastic ending to the series, and I am not burning up to read anymore books about this couple. I think I will go back to the Cynster series now. Or read some on the ones this group has turned me on to -- Flowers from the Storm is still on my carousel.

Hell on Wheels
by Karen Leabo
A Loveswept Classic Romance
Publisher: Loveswept (April 8, 2013)
Originally published in 1996
Note: Not on sale but still a good price.

Original Blurb:

Quote:

Could a daredevil charm a lady who'd always played it too safe?

A brash thrillseeker who liked living on the edge wasn't Victoria Driscoll's idea of the perfect partner for her annual tornado chase--but Roan Cullen was ready, willing, and hers! Roan reveled in teasing the flame-haired meteorologist in the close quarters of the weather van, wondering if his fiery kisses could take this proper spitfire by storm. Would the forecast read: struck by the lightning of love?

Sparkling with playful humor, sizzling with sweet sensuality, this delicious novel by Karen Leabo delivers a fast-paced tale of tempestuous romance! She'd never really known what it meant to be hot and bothered, but did she dare risk her heart on a handsome maverick who'd traded dallying with danger for flirting with her?
I read this yesterday and enjoyed it very much. I rate it 4 stars. It's a quick read but it was written in 1996 and has not been revised so keep that in mind. It really made me appreciate how far we come in predicting storms since then.

I read this entire series and it was sort of Meh. Not a lot of deep character development. The smexy was pretty good, maybe - enough to save the books from 2 stars but not enough to give any more than 3. The plots weren't bad but like I said, the characters weren't very deep. I felt like I skimmed the story, even though I didn't. But... it's free, so who's complaining?

I felt the same away about Kathleen Brook's Bluegrass and Bluegrass Brothers series... like I was skimming along on a story. And those had NO smexy in them...almost entirely behind closed doors. And THEY weren't free

You should see the Colin Firth version. I don't usually drool over actors but he is something special in that miniseries...the way he looks at the actress playing Elizabeth...dreamy.

My friend who owns the series tells me the same thing. Unfortunately I haven't see it on Nextflix or Hulu or Amazon Prime so I will just have to take your word for it.

Alot of Modern Westerns I find are like that. Harlequins are notorious for modern westerns like that. For some reason I find I do like them if the plot is good enough. They are quick and easy reads and I go into them knowing that there wont be much characterization.

If you're looking for deep character development try Lori Wilde's Jubilee series. Most Overdrive Libraries have them. I've only read the first book but gave it 5 stars. It wrung me out. I went into expecting it to be a funny sexy story and the first chapter follows that formula then it gets you right in the heart for the rest of the pages. The woman can write!

You're right about them being quick and easy reads. And I did want to finish out the Bluegrass series because they did have story arcs throughout and I wanted to know how it all ended up. (In an bow, of course!)

I have the first (and maybe the second) of the Jublilee series. I remember when you posted about it right after you read it... so I'm waiting for the right time to be able to dig in emotionally

I appreciate your honest review. I've decided to add it to my watch list and should it ever come on sale I'd likely grab it then.

Re: Kathleen Brooks Bluegrass, I got the first for free, rated 1 star and DNF.

Another $.99 deal that I grabbed. The Edge of Darkness by Melissa Andrea

blurb: ******Warning: this book is NA and contains graphic language, sex, and violence. Mature readers only. Not intended for young adult readers.***

After a tragic accident, Araya Noelle is left with a constant reminder that nothing is forever.

She is forced to give up her chance to be the youngest dancer accepted into Julliard & taking over their high society school by a graceful storm of determination is no longer an option. Instead of dwelling over her loss, she accepts the new future she’s been dealt. In a world as black as hers, there's no room for bitterness, no time for regret. Sheltered from the outside world, Araya has become suffocated by a life she has no control over. Until Ryland Dare comes crashing into her life.

You don’t know true darkness until you've felt light…

Like a firecracker, showering her with colorful sparks of freedom, Ryland quickly sweeps Araya away from her grey existence. For the first time since the accident, living in darkness is no longer something Araya wants to do willingly. Unleashed by the shadows of her reminder, being with Ryland, Araya touches light. Together they will learn what it’s like to feel alive for the first time.

At the edge of darkness, a ray of light will,
DARE them to HOPE.
DARE them to LOVE
DARE them to LIVE

The Edge of Darkness is book 1 in the darkness trinity novel.
