I think I have a revised copy, at least for Magician:Apprentice - Copyright 1992 with an "Acknowledgment to the Revised Edition" from 1991.

Amazon does not have ebook versions of this series.

Sorry to hear that. All of Feist's work is available as ebooks in the UK. The usual case of different US and UK publishers, I'd guess.

Hey!! Let's get some action going! What are we reading?

I'm currently re-reading one of my favorite novels of all time, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.

Busy reading the Shoal Sequence by Gary Gibson. On the 2nd book now and quite enjoying it. Proper space opera with some interesting twists and turns.

The series is a mess in eBook form in the US. It's mostly missing.

Disappointing. The worst of both writers rather than the best. Not funny, not engaging, just poor. Bother.

Next up: Elfhome by Wen Spencer. I'm pretty sure I'll like this one.

Just finished Phantom Prey by John Sandford and, typical for Sandford, it was an excellent read. Next up Charm School by Nelson DeMille

Yes, I think you will. My re-read of the Elfhome series was quite enjoyable.

Hmmm. It appears that they are also available in Canada, in both English and French. I should take a look at the BC Library and see if they have them.

"Light Thickens" by Ngaio Marsh - the 32nd and final book in the "Inspector Alleyn" series. During a performance of "Macbeth" at the Dolphin Theatre is London, an actor is brutally murdered. Alleyn has to find out whodunnit. This is a superb exit to the series: well-written, engaging characters, and an ingenious murder. It's a loose sequel to the earlier book "Death at the Dolphin" (written and set 16 years earlier) and features a number of the same characters.

I'm sad to have reached the end of this series, which I've read (interspersed with other books) over the last 18 months or so. It feels like saying goodbye to an old friend, to know that I'll never again read a new "Alleyn" story . There is actually a book of short stories that I've not yet read yet, so I think I'll save that for a future date.

Just added to my TBR pile is Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore. I've made it even better by removing the mirrored text graphic and actually replacing it with real mirrored text.

"Captive Universe" by Harry Harrison (Gateway SF). Classic SF, and a quick fun read. A boy growing up in a remote Aztec village, where his life is constrained by rigorous taboos, and the traditional gods are very real learns that his life and village are not at all what they appear to be.

I first read this many years ago. It stands up well to a modern re-read, although this Gateway edition isn't very well formatted. No (or very few) actual spelling errors, but a lot of wrong or missing punctuation.

Abandoned after 100 pages. Nothing new here. Several early plot holes. Annoying dialogue. I'm done.

Unsure of my next read.

I am just finishing Birth of the West by Paul Collins. His thesis is that the outline of modern western Europe and modern Western civilization was born in the tenth century when the Saxon kings organized the Holy Roman Empire. His coverage is from the Cadaver Synod to the death of Otto III. Overall an interesting read, although the big problem with a survey like this is trying to keep track of too many similiarly-named magnates behaving badly.

I have also been reading Fanny and Stella: The Young Men Who Shocked Victorian England by Neil McKenna, about a group of gay and transgendered persons, including Frederick (Fanny) Park and Ernest (Stella) Boulton, who were tried in a sensational trial in London in 1871, under the 1861 buggery statute - a view of a different world in so many ways.

This week I plan to start rereading Anthony Powell's A Dance to the Music of Time cycle.

I really wish these were all available in the US, or in Canada for a decent price. Only about half of them are available in the US, and the Canadian price of $8-$10 (and a couple@ $13!) is just more than I can afford for what is, after all, only a very quick read
