We moved from this same condo last time we went to Thailand, but not a single thing happened the way all of this is happening now. We never even had a single person come to look to buy the condo, and had to eventually rent it out. No one came to our moving sale last time, and we had to pay to throw out everything. This time, the apartment is virtually emptied. People keep bringing food, but I really want to eat some of the stuff in the fridge. That's why I froze it in the first place! But who am I to defrost chili con carne, when I can eat Kobe Beef. I have to say, when the fat is melted off over a hot fire, that stuff is Tender... I wouldn't pay for it in a shop at the prices it goes for. As I said, I'd much prefer a good piece of Angus beef cut as a T-bone or Porterhouse. I think that has much more flavor. But for 'tender...' Kobe beef has got 'em beat!

Now a glass of Bombay Sapphire, a last bowl of pop corn (I'll pack the popcorn popper tomorrow) and a movie. Life is good.

Congratulations on selling the condo. And at the price you expected. I think you're right--the signs are all in alignment for the move. It feels like when we moved to Canada, and everything just came together. We even sold the house without ever putting it on the market. Or paying a realtor!

Part of my bargaining strategy was to have the buyers pay the realtor and the fees if we came down to a level closer to what they were asking for. I was surprised they went for it, but I guess they really wanted the house badly enough. And... they are paying cash, rather than a bank loan, so everything will be able to move ahead much more quickly. The agent can do the title search on Monday morning, we can chop the documents Monday afternoon and take a deposit, and they can pay the balance on Wednesday. My wife has to fly back to Japan a in the middle of June, so she'll be able to initiate a wire transfer of those funds... everything seems to be working out perfectly! And there is even enough Bombay Sapphire left for two more glasses! That will take care of Sunday and Monday!

And now it's time for me to start popping Papaya enzyme tablets from GNC. 3 tabs x 3 a day. If anyone suffers from ears popping when flying (or difficulty equalizing when scuba diving, for some unknown reason, ordinary papaya enzyme (or fresh papaya) take several times a day for 4-5 days before the flight, and during the dive week, and there is absolutely NO trouble with ears! Strange but true!

Cold tea in the cup, instant. Looking mainly for something wet. Just finished my first 5k race since High School. It was a fund raiser for my son's summer camp. Finished second place for my age group behind the guy that placed second place over all.

My nine year old ran too. He did great. I went back after finishing and ran the last 1/4 mile leg with him. He came in around 43 mins. Really proud of him. His first race ever and he really tried hard. Neither of us actually trained for it through... ops.

As a word of encouragement... I posted this else where, thought I should share here too.

9 years ago, when my son was born I could not walk to my mail box with out getting winded (talking 15-20 feet, tops). I got fed up with being sick and weak, and made it a point to get healthy so that my son could have a father to play with. TODAY I ran my first 5k race since high school, and took second place for my age group, behind the sicko that took 2 second place over all.

It CAN be done. W00T!

One I'd never heard! I be interested in any research sitings you might have for that, since my DW has problems diving and basically gave it up. (Limiting my diving as a result. )

Fresh squeezed orange juice. The very beginning of the California Valencia season, so they are a bit "tart".

Good for you, Stichawl. Congrats on the sale of your condo and your upcoming move to Thailand. I envy you that you go and live in such a nice warm country and with friendly people.

in my cup: hot Arabica coffee

(thinking about my trip in autumn; I would love to travel in Sudan or if that isn't possible again in Egypt. I just watched Joanna Lumley's Nile on T.V, where she travels the whole of the Nile from Alexandrie in to Sudan-Oeganda-Rwanda. Watching this gives me a severe case of the travel bugs.....but first I have to save up for it, although Egypt isn't expensive as it is a political unstable country....)

In the meanwhile: next tuesday I'll be attending a seminar on the restoration of the coffins of the Amun priests, who were made some thousands years ago. http://www.rmo.nl/english

I might give that a try. I did a quick look up and found the below.
Spoiler:
Papaya Enzyme Tablets - Papain and Bromelain are proteolytic enzymes from papaya and pineapple, respectively. These are wonderfully effective, useful medicines that our health care system has made it difficult for us to get at - though it is now available over the internet.

BE CAREFUL:

You must only use tablets that are calibrated in ENZYME ACTIVITY UNITS. Papaya tablets at health food stores, basically, can have any amount of enzymes in them, and there is no way to know what you are really getting with these.
You must dissolve the enzyme tablets in the buccal pouch (between cheek and gum). You will see that many papaya supplement instructions say to chew or swallow; it is well known that the enzymes are inactivated by stomach acids, and swallowing guarantees they will do almost nothing. The reason they instruct you to chew or swallow is most likely due to FDA regulations on supplements. Dissolve in buccal pouch for good absorption.

Papain and Bromelain proteolytic enzymes take down swelling and thin mucous. They are effective for everything from helping boxers with their bruises to taking down swelling of the throat, swelling of the eustachian tube, and sinus pain due to blockage. Some of my patients report extremely rapid action in helping them clear their ears in case of inflamed eustachian tube.

Years ago, there was a drug called papase on the market, by one of the big drug companies. The story goes that the FDA required tighter rules on getting drugs approved, and paperwork and clinical trials were required. The drug companies felt, well, everybody knows this is just made from papaya, and no one will pay enough money to make it profitable enough for us to sell it. Forget it, let's take this off the market, let them buy more expensive drugs. Papase is no longer available.

Getting Papaya & Pineapple Proteolytic Enzyme Tablets - Search the web for "proteolytic enzyme calibrated in FCCPU enzyme activity units".

Fantastic and congratulations. It must have been even better, as you shared it with your son.

Morning coffee in my cup and thinking I am going to have to switch to lots of water today. It is still AM and it is already 80+ degrees (F) outside. This after it had been windy and cool for so long, even had to use the heat last week.

This week was my no kidding return to the gym week. I have lost 55 pounds since Lucas was born, 30 pounds was baby weight, all through diet. I found myself on the elliptical saying " do it for Lucas" on Tuesday. By Thursday it was " do it for me." I want to be able to do things with Lucas when he is a teenager and that means taking care of myself. But I need to remember that eating well and exercising is good for me and my mood and my overall well being. Lucas and his Dad will benefit from my taking care of me. It is ok to be selfish and put me first.

Mug 'o tea #2.

I realize that we have a "What are you listening to" thread here, but this doesn't really fit. What I'm "listening to" at the moment is the first wave of many millions of 17 year cicadas (Brood II), all hoping to "get lucky" in their allotted two weeks. Right now it's like living on a runway with a business jet idling -- from dawn to dusk.

All my bags are packed I'm ready to go
I'm standin' here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breakin' it's early morn
The taxi's waitin' he's blowin' his horn
Already I'm so lonesome I could die

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh baby, I hate to go

Good morning, everyone! I have not a clue to what I'm drinking right now... I took all the remaining teas and put them into one tin so I could throw away all the empty tins. But I don't mind. They are all good! But... I've already packed my good tea mug. Now I have to use a right-handed one for the next three days.... Some Italian sausage and onions and cheese, rolled up in tortillas for breakfast. Necessity is a Motha... but the fridge is getting empty. Today is the last day I have for filling boxes, then dismantaling my computer system and getting that all packed way. Time to bring out the laptop. The shippers come in tomorrow to take it all away, then Tuesday morning all the people who pre-bought at our moving sale will start carting off furniture... Now that the house is sold I can take down all the pictures and wall decorations too, and get them packed away. What a process this has been... from the nutty running around through the burocracy, the banking, the packing... I guess I've moved 25-30 times in my life, but this one takes the cake. I remember the first 'adult' move after getting out of the service... To California with my girlfriend. We each had one backpack and one cardboard box. Everything fit easily into the trunk of the car, and down the road we went. We took Rt.66 because of the TV show. We didn't even know 'where' we were going, except 'to California.' We eventually saw a sign that said 'Hollywood Freeway' so we took that road until we saw an exit sign that said 'Sunset Strip' and got off there because we knew that name from a TV show too. 45 years ago... Time sure do change.

I was told about it by an MD I met on a dive boat in the Western Caroline islands back in the early '90's. It always took me longer than anyone else to equalize, even though I was a certified dive master for years. I'd have to follow along 20 meters above the group, very slowly working my way down. The MD didn't have any idea why it worked, but told me to give it a try. Once I started using the papaya enzyme, I could drop like a stone... Then I realized I could use it when flying too. My ear popping was actually painful when I flew. No no mo! It takes about 3-4 days of eating it in advance, but it works like a charm. When in more tropical regions I just eat fresh papaya twice a day. Here, where a papaya costs about $5 each, the pills from GNC do the job.

I might give that a try. I did a quick look up and found the below.
Interesting... Although the papaya tablets do have a pleasant taste, I always just swallowed them whole. I still have a couple of days before we fly so I'll try chewing them from now on. I'll be interested to see if there is any difference.

[quote} You must only use tablets that are calibrated in ENZYME ACTIVITY UNITS. Papaya tablets at health food stores, basically, can have any amount of enzymes in them, and there is no way to know what you are really getting with these. [/quote]

There doesn't seem to be any consensus about HOW MUCH is required. The MD told me just to take 3-4 tablets 3 times a day. And when eating fresh papaya, there is even LESS of an idea about Enzyme Activity Units consumed. But that works just as well for me. I can't imagine that eating 2 papaya a day can do any harm... except to the papaya.

They are also the active ingredients in "Accent" meat tenderizer! Bromelain is the active enzyme in pineapple!
