Chicken and avocado salad with my fresh cup of coffee.
Stitchawl, are you sure that 6 boxes are enough? Is it a custom to bring things to people that are leaving? I think you said there is a welcome from neighbors when you move in, yes? Kind of like our welcome wagon here? |

Kicking back with a mug of Yorkshire tea, having just returned from the Vet's with all the final pre-flight check and documents. A-1 rating, all systems Go.
You are? I AM!!!! This stuff was all supposed to be eaten before we left. But people have been bringing in food every day for the past two weeks, and we've been invited to dinner in neighbors houses at least three or four nights a week! Tonight I'm going to make a giant Tepanade to try to use up three jars of Kalamata olives, a jar of capers, and some anchovies. I won't be able to finish it all, and will give most away to the neighbors, but I don't want to pack glass bottles. Cans I don't mind. Glass shipped to Thailand often doesn't make it. And as long as we don't have to pay by weight, and there IS a minimum SIZE that we are still well under, why not pack the cans too? The smallest size we can ship internationally by sea is one internal container that fits inside those big metal truck containers. It's about 1/4 of one of the 18-wheeler containers. As we aren't shipping any furniture, we are well under the size minimum. For what I have left to pack in the kitchen, more than enough. There are a few things that we will let the moving company pack for us; my computer and a couple of monitors, Felicity's climbing gym and her climbing tree sort of like this one, an electric keyboard, and a few oddly shaped things, but basically, other than the kitchen stuff, we are pretty well packed up. Quote:
![]() Most likely they just like my wife. ![]() In Japan, you have to pay big money to throw things away. It will cost us $300 just to throw away the kitchen cupboard and two bedroom closets. We offered to give them away but no one needed them, and the recycle shops wanted to charge us $250 to pick them up! I'd rather pay the extra fifty bucks, knowing that the recycle shop would turn around and sell them for $100-$200 each, plus the money they charge use to take them! As it is, every day I've been bringing various things downstairs with a note on them "Free to a good home." Today I brought down a four-shelf greenhouse. Yesterday a five shelf bookcase and half a dozen terra-cotta planters. It was all gone in less than an hour. Quote:

Blue Springs Oolong.
The Puerh Ice Tea I made was really good. I'll be bringing home individual tuochas to make that in the future. Good stuff, tasted like Puerh but was not hot. Awesome. |

![]() We used to just click through the training to get to the exam, do it to get the certificate to print, and call it a day. The training rarely changed. |
