Why not have her use a Garrote instead? It's cleaner than a knife and quieter than a gun.

I'm so impressed with your knowledge of killing people. The protagonist is a small woman, 5"3'and 93 pounds when soaking wet, the victim is 6"2'and 245 pounds. She sneaks into the men's room and hide, afraid that he has seen her and knows who she is. He comes in to take a whizz, she sees an opportunity, he fits with a full bladder.

You guys are starting to worry me...
My first book teaches investigators how to read firearm evidence at crime scenes, so I've got a bit of a background in this. Any semi-auto .22 would do the trick. Home made silencers are easy to make, the simplest that I'm aware of is a toilet paper tube stuffed with a kotex, they are good for one shot. It could be taped to the barrel with electrical tape. The sound could be heard but it wouldn't sound like a gunshot. Keep in mind with such a setup you can't see the sights, but it doesn't sound like they are needed in this scene. It's my understanding that revolvers don't work well with suppressors because of the lack of a good seal between the cylinder and the barrel (that leaks noise and gas). You can probable surf around on the net and find other home-made silencers. The Ruger MkII or MkIII, as mentioned, would work fine but may be hard to conceal. Berreta makes their Bobcat .22 that's much smaller. |

The Nagant revolver that teh603 suggested seem to solve the problem with leaking gasses and a toilet roll would fit over the pipe. Would it work stuffing toilet paper inside the cardboard center of the roll? There would be GSR inside the paper roll, but forensically speaking that should be fairly useless I assume.

I have no idea where one would get the 7.62x38R ammunition for the Nagant let alone one of the guns. I've never seen one. The mob preferred (or is it prefer?) the Ruger... they are available at any U.S. gun store or gun show. Plus the ammo is everywhere. As far as forensics... it'll be obvious it's a gunshot wound and as for linking the bullet or shell casing with the firearm; rhetorically speaking, what half-wit murderer would keep the gun he killed with?

It takes place in Stockholm, the Nagant was popular as a police side arm in both Sweden and Russia, because it is a unique weapon there might be reason to keep it, the home made ammo of builders sand and epoxy sound interesting if viable. Have to study the availability of cartridges.

The Ruger .22 with the front blade sight removed is perfect for this. Very, very quiet, but don't ask me how I know. Stitchawl Last edited by Stitchawl; 05-29-2013 at 05:18 AM. |

Instead of a restaurant, make it a louder place with loud music and people would be less likely to notice a single muffled bang.

That would certainly be one solution, but part of it is not only that it is a "crime of opportunity" but that it is also advanced enough that the police will immediately begin to think that it is committed by a professional.

Perhaps have her leave some clue(s) behind that make it look like it was a personal hit (done by a pro). Like the word revenge written in his native alphabet or something.

Hmm, sounds a bit contrived, but it actually opens up a different question. How exactly can a ME determine time of death? Would liver temperature be affected if the victim had a fever?
