As explained by HarryT downloading a cover does NOT update the ebook (format) files themselves, all it does is to put the image as cover.jpg into the book folder. Then the OP was given some methods to update the ebook file(s) - including Polish (shortcut P), along with instructions on how to put Polish in the icon bar.

Its not clear from the OP's post how the book was loaded to the IPad, or whether it was reloaded after the cover was downloaded - if it was done via a OS level file copy then the old cover would still be there.

I'm the original poster in this thread. I was attempting to change the cover of some books I had downloaded. I finally discovered how to invoke the "polish" (press the P key) and so far it seems to be working for me. I've only tried LIT and EPUB formats at this date.

Hi, I don't think Polish will put the covers into LIT files, nor will Modify. Polish will do ePub and AZW3, Modify will only do ePub.

The way I would get a new cover into a LIT file, and see that's its done on my computer, would be to do a LIT to LIT convert.

Both "Polish" and "Modify" work with ePub and AZW3.

I'm unable to run Modify ePub on a Book than does not have an EPUB

Calibre 0.9.32, Modify ePub 1.3.7

Sorry, I'm getting confused. It's "Tweak Book", not "Modify", that also works with AZW3. That's not a plug-in, but a standard feature of Calibre.

Your forgiven - Doc O pulled me up a couple of weeks ago for not mentioning that Polish did AZW3.

So after changing my prior post here I thought dang, I'd better check for myself

I'm not sure what your saying but according to Calibre's What's New Polish does do AZW3.

Yes, "Polish" and "Tweak" both do AZW3 (as well as ePub), but I mistakenly thought that "Modify" did too, but that's ePub only.
