Calibre 0.9.31; KT 2.5.2; KText. 1.3.2.

Is there any news concerning the error:
Failed to parse 'Die Frau von dreißig Jahren' by 'Honoré de Balzac' with error: 'this element does not have children or attributes' (file: calibre_plugins.kobotouch_extended.container, line: 492)

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 85, in run
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 557, in _upload_books
File "calibre_plugins.kobotouch_extended.driver", line 259, in upload_books
InvalidEPub: Failed to parse 'Die Frau von dreißig Jahren' by 'Honoré de Balzac' with error: 'this element does not have children or attributes' (file: calibre_plugins.kobotouch_extended.container, line: 492)

Only out of curiosity. Thanks!

Coming in v1.3.3, hopefully to be pushed out tonight but that depends on verifying that everything works for me when I test it.

Oh, fine! I just today re-configured the plugin, perceiving that I had made many a thing erroneous before. Thanks for your instructions that lead me there!

And thanks for the courageous work, of course!

Ahem, may I add something: I noticed that at closing the reader (that means shutting down), the cover image of the last read book vanishes, and it appears the blank title, like a Kobo default. This occurs with the plugin switched on as well as in the former state. No big bang, but it's different than it used to be.

Version 1.3.3 is posted, look for calibre to prompt you to update in the next little while. Happy reading!

Are the books on the SD card? If so it is a known bug in the FW2.5.2 and Kobo have acknowledged it as a bug.

There are two parts to the bug. One is that the device is no longer saving generated covers on the SD card. The second is the sleep cover. But, if the covers are on the device, they are used. So, the workaround is to send the covers from calibre when sending the books.

Indeed, I have almost all my books on SD card. Strange only that this issue appears only since the last few days, the Fw. 2.5.2 beeing installed for a month, I think.

What I thought of last night is trying to delete the books on the SD card, convert them again with Calibre and send again to the card.

What do you mean with "send the covers from calibre when sending the books"? By working out the metadata, I always try to implement a cover image, if not even doing so by formatting with Sigil, the final conversion accomplished with Calibre.

My last question going to ask whether there might be a different way to implement covers.

New version works perfectly fine for me :-) No "children or attributes" errors - and I had quite a few of them before.

I have very few books on my reader right now, but they are all going to the right shelves with the new version of the plugin.

With all the Kobo spans I'm jamming in there, it better remember bookmarks!

That said, I'm inserting probably two or three tons more than I need to, mostly because it made the processing logic stupidly simple. I do plan to optimize it, but for now it does mean that file sizes will increase more than necessary.

Awesome, I couldn't even reliably reproduce that so here's hoping it keeps working for you

Covers for epubs are generated by the device from the first page of the book. For sideloaded kepubs, the cover image is extracted from the books based on a statement in the OPF within the book. The extended driver modifies this statement so that the device can find the cover.

With FW2.5.2, the covers for books on the SD card are shown, but not stored on the device. And no cover is used for the sleep cover. But, if the cover images are put on the SD card by some other mechanism, they are used. This includes the sleep cover. The driver includes options to create the covers on the device when a book is sent to the device.

The reason you are seeing the sleep cover problem now, is either you have changed the driver options, or you have sent some new books. With FW2.5.0 and 2.5.1, the cover images for books on the SD card were saved. While you were reading those books, the covers images existed so where used.

Well, I have not put the card with 600 books in yet. It may be the number of files that have to "attach" shelves. As long as I cannot have kepubs from the SD card show up on the home page, I am unlikely to store many books there.

I've tried 1.33 but with strange results .

A small epub was fine but I've just re-uploaded a larger one (70+ xml files of up to 108Kb) which worked previously and the Glo doesn't even know it's there. I can't locate it with a search to try to open it although browsing the filesystem confirms the kepub.epub is in the right place so somehow it isn't finding it's way into the database.

When I explode and examine the .kepub.epub file it appears that each of the contained xml files have been generated with the entire body as a single line of text so trying to open it with Sigil takes an age. Perhaps this is why the Glo is having problems in digesting it.

Is this transformation intentional ? It does make it difficult to read the file manually even of it isn't the reason why my Glo ignores the book.

@BobC: Could you try validating the .kepub.epub file in Sigil? The errors might show why the Glo rejected the file. There will be one error for the property the extended driver adds to the cover in the OPF. You could also try saving from Sigil and then copying that manually to the Glo.

The reason for this is that I don't believe the device reads the full file, only the OPF and NCX files. If these have an error, that could cause the file to be rejected.
