You can do a bank transfer to your PayPal. You can also buy a Green Dot Moneypak to add funds to your PayPal. PayPal will always take from it's balance first before touching your backup source. It's a work around you can try so your card wont get flagged.

So weird that Kobo no longer sells eGift cards - I'd love to know the story behind that!

I imagine it wouldn't work outside of Canada, but we can use gift cards bought from Chapters.Indigo.ca, and they do offer electronic cards.

Out of top 5 results, one an BBB warning about scams involving Green Dot Moneypak and another about three different viruses:

So, it's some type of pre-paid credit card that you purchase? then add money to, presumably at Walmart?

what sort of fees are involved (other than the $5 up front charge, which would probably stop me from buying it, on it's own, since they probably make their money off credit/debit card charges for fill-ups; not to mention it would involve actually stepping foot inside a walmart...)?

Have you tried using a credit card recently? Kobo now has set up a Delaware company for transactions. You may not get hit with the foreign transaction fee.

It's not a credit card but a way to add funds electronically. You buy it just like you would a gift card. You then add the code on the back to your PayPal or Green Dot prepaid card.

My mom uses it to send me money all the time. I take the code she gives me on the phone and redeem it on my prepaid credit card to add funds to it. It's Instantaneous so I get it right away.

Yes you read many things from the BBB about it because there are some really gullible people out there. Its not Green Dot's fault that bad people abuse the method. Same thing happens with Western Union or Moneygram. In fact we can't use Moneygram due to my husband's name (which is a common name I might add) is banned from the service.

Mom had to use Western Union which charges alot more to wire money and now thanks to Moneypaks it makes it so much easier and cheaper on her to send money to us.

You can buy Moneypaks at gas stations and places like Walgreens and of course Walmart. Moneypak's site will tell you where the closest dealer is.

There is only the $4.95 fee. There is no other fee involved. It's just virtual money with a code. You use that code to transfer the money to a permanent source like PayPal or a reloadable green dot credit card. Dish Network uses it for people to pay them money. Here's a list of legit sites that take it.

Never send a Moneypak to someone you don't know. It's as simple as that.

That would be cool unfortunately the bank with my cards knows Kobo is in Canada. So I still get them.

Another different note [I'm all over the place today!], don't you hate it when you buy a book immediately upon release because you're so convinced you're going to love it, and then you don't! And then, you start reading a book that you really don't have any expectations for and you really enjoy it a surprising amount? Well, I have one to recommend that I was just completely charmed by. I got it at Kobo with coupon, but as soon as I was done I immediately bought the 2nd and am reading it now. I can't explain really why, but I just thoroughly enjoyed her writing. Anyways, it's 'Falling Into You' by Lauren Abrams if you want to check it out.
