I hate to say but if you've got a terminal window open in the first place, why not just navigate through command line to the location that the Mac has mounted the Kobo and remove the file / directory via command line?

The insistence people have to do everything via a GUI floors me!

Because GUI is the easiest way for most people. I don't know about some but I don't know the code needed to do that through Terminal.

Also it seems to have only fix the .pdf library books, epub still won't work.

I don't mean to cause issues, but... take a look (and learn) from http://wiseheartdesign.com/articles/...ommand-prompt/

Seriously; some things are a whole WHOLE lot easier done different ways.

For a Mac you need to:
1. Open Terminal -> enter the following: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE (you can copy and paste this line)-> hit enter and then type ->killall Finder -> hit enter again.
Don't worry killall just reboots the windows so it takes effect.

2. Go into your Kobo eReader folder (it shows up as a drive) -> you'll see a files called .adobe-digitals-editions faded out in the folder now -> move it to the recycle bin and delete it.

3. Unplugged you Kobo and then reconnect to ADE and reauthorize. This should set you back up and running.

4. Don't forget to hide those files again. In Terminal enter the following -> zdefaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE -> hit enter and type -> killall Finder -> hit enter again.
I posted earlier that this only worked to fix the .pdf ADE issue but with a little fiddling I was able to figure it out.

Before doing this step I de-authorized ADE using Command+Shift+D when the program was open. I then closed this program. Did the steps above for the Kobo (I also deleted the Digital Editions folder) and then disconnected and rebooted the computer before authorizing ADE and then the Kobo again.

Hopefully this helps someone else fix the problem 2.4 caused.

Actually, if you prefer the GUI, you don't need to use the terminal at all. Finder has a really handy built in way to show hidden files. In this case, using the terminal is even more work.

From the finder,
- Hit the "Go" menu from the menubar
- Down the bottom, hit "Go to folder..."
- Type in the path you want to go to. In this case, that's "/Volumes/KOBOeReader/.adobe-digitals-editions"
- Hit "Go", and voila, the hidden folder opens.

No need to hide files again afterwards.

Another way is to use a script that you put in a handy place (I have it in my Finder window toolbars). I actually have two, one that toggles all hidden files on/off (relaunches the Finder, as your "killall Finder" terminal command does), and the other gives me a browse window (the "open file..." browse window) and lets me browse all hidden files, then choose one to open. Very useful.

I did not know that. That will be very useful in the future. Thank you. ^_^

Library books were not working so I tried many things including the above...
I have deleted the adobe.digital.editions possibly a big mistake. Now when I go into ADE it does not pick up my Kobo at all.
I have tried reinstalling ADE, not worked.

Am I in deep trouble here?
Can someone help

The device.xml file in the directory has your device serial number embedded in it so the easiest way to get the file back is to do a factory restore of your Kobo. ADE needs to see that file before it will authorize the device. Before doing so, make sure you have a backup of any sideloaded books, your books from Kobo will be automagically restored. After doing the backup, since your Kobo is working, you can go the settings and select Factory Reset and Reset Now. Otherwise, you get the joy of holding the power button for about 15 seconds to make sure it's powered off, then hold the light button for the Glo or Aura or the home button for the Touch while you turn it on. Once the LED starts rapidly blinking, you can let go of the home/light button Since the Mini does not have a physical home or light button, I've never been sure how to trigger a hard factory reset or even it that is possible.

After you have it working and authorized, copy the activation.xml file to a safe location. After a factory reset or however else it gets destroyed, copying back to your Kobo saves you from using one of your limited number of activations to reactivate it. I really hate calling Adobe to get more activations.

Good Luck!

David

To stop you having problems reading library books in the future, remember to always delete expired books before adding new ones. Somehow the expired books "infect" the new ones, so even if you delete them after, the new books still claim not to be able to be opened because of DRM.

I didn't bother giving this advice before, since you seemed sooo beyond that in your troubles, but just for future reference...

Delete expired then add new.
