Hi
It may seem silly to some superior beings but I really hate being forced to look at a title bar on the top of my six inches screen (and at a distracting chapter bar at the bottom). Please Kobo people, let KEPUB be what you wish, I do not care about your fancy "reading life", but, pleeeeaaaase, keep EPUB display out of your dubious experimentations. Some speak about EPUB 3 features going to be released. But, there are still some obvious and huge reading bugs that need to be corrected in your EPUB 2 implementation, bugs which impact on a vast majority of today's ebooks. It seems you never heard about this insane pagebreak before long paragraphs ? It would be about time to squash this one out and THIS would greatly improve the reading experience of your customers. Well, David, I can't speak about technicalities, but after some years of using (and producing) EPUBs, I bumped on this shameful bug for the first time with my brand new Kobo Glo. Never seen before... Sony had some bugs but certainly not this one.

Ok my Glo finally got here! It updated to 2.5.1. So maybe I should try a few epubs without the title.

It's not an attack, I simply pointed out how you are guilty of the very same thing you were complaining about, one person making a decision for everyone. You don't get to decide what is everyone's reason for choosing ebooks. You speak for no one but yourself.

We've been asking Kobo to make at least some of the GUI elements as options rather than forcing them on us. I've come to the point where I'm pretty sure Kobo really doesn't give a sh.. about their customers or at least whoever it is that makes these decisions doesn't. I sideload my epubs mainly because I do NOT want to see the title of the book at the top of every page. I do NOT have alzheimer's where I cannot remember what book I am reading from one page to the next no matter how many books I have on the go. I DO find having the title at the top annoying. I am NOT retarded in that I cannot figure out that if I press the centre of the screen and wait for the time to disappear that it will be replaced by the book title and hence I will be reminded of what book I am reading just in case I have bashed by head into something and cannot remember what I was reading.
People keep making the comparison to paperbooks. But they have the title on every page or every other page... Yes they do but why? Because a paper book can fall apart, the cover can be ripped off, pages can fall out. If all the title was there for was to remind people of what they were reading, then all they have to do is look at the cover. Sure balancing out the page by having the title at the top and page number at the bottom may have something to do with it as well. Anyway that's my rant on this. I will not be updating and perhaps when my glo dies sometime down the road some other company will get my money instead. Or hopefully someone will trying jailbreak the Kobo, or better yet maybe Kobo will actually listen to us and make these displays OPTIONAL! Ohohohoh.... but that would introduce more bugs. LMAO, been there experienced that. A few things I came across, found at http://typophile.com: Quote:

I will try to say this clearly and reasonably, without provoking a flamewar, so that Kobo will see it and understand and MAYBE give us the ability to have a full-screen mode for reading: I bought an Aura because it was advertised as having a larger screen, presumably for reading. I do not want a larger device with a smaller usable screen.

Ok just looking at your avatar, I should have known. there's always one or two like you in any forum, it's inevitable I guess
![]() Anyways whether you like it or not, we talk about the Kobo issues in this thread and if that's a thorn up your ... back It's not my problem, care or concern. Oh and all I asked was to have a CHOICE so that this option of full screen be given to us, meaning TOO that you don't have to switch to full screen, that's the definition of "CHOICE" but you simply don't get that no matter how slowly and plainly it is explained to you. And you say I try to speak for others ? I rest my case Last edited by Quexos; 05-11-2013 at 02:09 PM. |

I understand that some people like (or at least don't mind) the space used at the top and bottom of the screen for the title and page number. Someone mentioned that this takes away approximately 20% of the available screen for reading. I am wondering what the cutoff point is for people who think losing 20% of the screen is ok. What if 50% of the screen was unavailable for actual reading? Would that be ok? For me, it's not really the number of words on the screen that matters, but the ability to use the screen I have for its intended purpose of reading. Also, I read quickly, so if I have to turn more pages more often, I tend to keep my finger hovering over the screen, rather than putting my hand down. I realize this probably sounds stupid, but I feel like I'm playing some kind of videogame (tap-tap-tap) rather than reading a book.

20% is huge. If you only had 80% of the Aura's 6.8" screen then it makes it 5.44".

Well not really because that bottom space is part of the advertised 6.8" screen. Not making it available for reading while advertising it as part of the screen size sounds more like a fallacy to me.
