lost kindle

I have been looking my daughter's kindle for the past few months..
Last night I went online to "manage my kindle" on my Amazon account.

Well the missing kindle was renamed "Hernandez"

I guess there wasn't a password on the device.
I sent a rtf file via the associated email account
"lost device call me at xxx.xxx.xxxx"

Then Changed the device name to "REWARD-LOST-xxx.xxx.xxxx"

oh boy..

Notify Amazon and have them freeze the unit by its MAC address. Then it can never be used by anyone. That will "encourage" the finder to return it since it will be useless for him.

... and it will also become useless for the OP.

(At least AFAIK, Amazon does not "unlock" locked devices again - but I may be wrong).

If it still shows up on your "Manage Your Kindle" account, it means they can purchase books on your account. It may be cheaper to have this Kindle blacklisted and purchase another.

Agreed I would be checking if you have a credit card on that account for any purchases that would've been made since it went missing.

And checking bank statements in case other things besides books have been bought on the card. Not to mention if there are charges for books or other such on that card then it might be a police matter as the thief will be taking funds from you without your permission and maybe somehow using your Amazon account to get other things besides ebooks. And it doesn't take much for a bank account to be compromised.

Unless they had a password to the Amazon account they couldn't purchase anything but Kindle content from the Kindle so I don't think they have to worry that far.

Maybe, but it never hurts to err on the side of caution by checking either.

I lost my kindle about a two weeks ago. I've been checking my router DHCP and it is regularly connecting to my wifi network. It's incredibly frustrating to know it is within a 1,500 sq. ft house but no idea where exactly. I which there were a lost mode feature which enabled a loud beep or something. Although the paperwhite doesn't have a speaker so that couldn't happen, even as a jailbreak app. Good luck!

I can imagine that must be frustrating. Losing anything and knowing it is somewhere in the immediate area is never fun. Hopefully there isn't any damage to it (from falling behind something or whatever). Of course the basic black color of Kindle ereader cases doesn't help in such cases.
