MicroUSB cable and Aura HD

Is it true that a standard MicroUSB cable doesn't work with the Aura? Do you really have to use a proprietary one that comes with the reader? Can you at least use a standard one for charging?

I use my Kindle USB cords with my Kobo - no problem - for charging or hooking to a PC.

I haven't even unpacked the USB cable that came with the Aura. I'm currently using one that came with a Blackberry phone and had no problems.

I noticed that the cable that I use to charge my readers on a wall charger was a bit loose on the Aura, but it charged anyhow.

The generic cable I use to transfer files from my iMac works just fine as well.

The one that came with mine is still in the box. I've used my Kindle cable, my iGo wall charger w/ micro USB tip and a Samsung phone cable.

The USB cord that comes with the Aura HD is a pretty good one though. You can even
find it easily amongst a bunch of others, it has a striking woven black and white cover
over the length of the cord.

Thanks all. I thought it was odd that they wouldn't just use a standard micro USB cable. Glad to know they do.

Unless there are some strange outside the norm power requirements for your device any micro usb charger should work I use the same old charger for my 2 phones .. my reader and my tablet... ditto for the data cable.. of course the device maker could make it so you would need to buy their grossly over priced stuff.. you know like $20 for a stylus....

That's completely untrue; a standard cable works fine. The Kobo Aura HD happens to come with a really nice one, wrapped in a nylon sheath -- but that's just part of making the whole package look up-market. Functionally, any normal micro USB cable will do for either charging or syncing.
