Perhaps it's partly that I can't stand bars. (Noisy, smelly, crowded....) I could easily imagine meeting someone interesting in a bookstore, talking for a few hours, & exchanging contact info to possibly meet up again later, or meeting while pursuing a mutually-enjoyed hobby (in fact, I met my husband that way). Perhaps that's partially the same sort of thing, just a different category of venue. But no matter where I've met someone, I just can't imagine launching into a romantic or physical relationship with someone I've only just met.

But sure, it takes all kinds to make a world, I agree.

I think Neko is probably mostly "introvert" -- I know I sure am! Our sort isn't the sort which is meeting people in bars. Extroverts may well be meeting each other in party atmospheres -- but they aren't meeting us introverts there!

Got it in one! Somewhat less so than I was 20 years ago, though, at least according to the most recent Briggs-Meyer test I took.

(Meekly raises hand)

Yeah, I was an introvert when I was young. Didn't hang out in bars much. Too busy trying to be an arr-teest... which, you'd think, would've earned me some points on the "chick-magnet" scale, but as I'd never gotten very good at it, that didn't happen, either!

That meant spending a lot of time on my own, which ultimately gave me the discipline to design and build web sites (which pays my bills), and to write (which pays my soul--and occasionally buys me lunch).

After more thought, I think badgoodDeb has hit on an important truth: I like to read stories with main characters who are introverts more than stories with main characters who are extroverts. Wow, deep insight! In thinking through the other Briggs-Meyers scales and the books I like best, I probably also prefer characters who are (or grow to become) "perceptive" rather than "judgmental," but not as strongly. The other two (T/F, S/N) are more of a wash, probably because I don't align so strongly on those two scales.

This would explain why I like Pratchett's witches better than his wizards, too.

No wonder I feel so at home here. I've finally found an introvert club!

Introverts... unite!

Oh, excuse me...

Introverts... nod shyly and tip-toe into the reading room!
