Karen's blog has turned me on to a new source for free audiobooks: Noisetrade. There are currently 6 titles available, mostly from Mission Audio (a Christian audiobook producer, though most of these are classic literature). You can find a full list (regularly updated) here.

"Quitter," by John Acuff, read by Jon Acuff (Lampo Press, unabridged)

"Through Painted Deserts," by Donald Miller, read by Scott Brick (ChristianAudio.com, unabridged)

"Pilgrim's Progress: Retold," by John Bunyan, read by Paul Michael (ChristianAudio.com, abridged)

"The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," by Mark Twain, read by Robin Field (Mission Audio, unabridged)

"The Call of the Wild," by Jack London, read by William Dufris (Mission Audio, unabridged)

"Shakespeare's Greatest Hits," by William Shakespeare, read by Robin Field (Mission Audio, unabridged?)

Tips are encouraged but not required. You can even download, listen, and then decide what to tip. All files are in non-DRM mp3 format.

Enjoy!

The Free Classics decreased from 10 to 6 and the $0.99 Classics increased from 44 to 108. That's a huge jump for the $0.99 Classics. I doubt they've added that many. It's more like they were always there, but never listed with the others. In the past, I've found titles that should belong to the above groups, but weren't listed. For example; "The Wizard of Oz" is not listed in the Free Classics, yet it's still free.

Out of the "Free Classics", I have the audio of all but two: Moll Flanders is $0.49 for the audiobook and Jane Eyre is $2.99 for the audiobook (both "reduced price").

I checked a few of the $0.99 ones and while most come up as $0.99, a few come up as $2.49 or $2.99.

Thanks for checking. I figured it wasn't all that accurate. I'll add an accuracy warning to the OP.

Moll Flanders and Jane Eyre are still free at Audible if you choose different versions.

I'm almost wondering if the more expensive versions are different versions. The verbiage changes on the pages depending on if you've got the WhisperSync for Voice Audible book or not. I'd have to check several books to see if there are differences for ones I have and ones I don't.

I checked my Audible account and I have a Moll Flanders (Davina Porter) and a Jane Eyre (Brilliance Edition - Susan Ericksen) which I got free previously.

Edit: Sorry, Moll Flanders is still free it's Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man that's showing $0.49.

Thanks much! All of the titles were added to the OP, along with a link to this post.

On some I looked at, it seems the link was just incorrect and there was a different audiobook version that was indeed 99 cents.

Here's a chance to get a free Audible book, but it's not for everyone. First, there are three choices:

The Power Trip by Jackie Collins
American Sniper by Chris Kyle
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, narrated by Jake Gyllenhaal

Second, you have to have a Windows 8 machine or a Windows phone. Third (and this one is the killer), you have to be signing up for Audible for the first time. (No, this is not the usual trial membership. No credit card information is required.) Details can be found here. If someone has Windows 8 and hasn't bothered to install Audible but has an account, I'd love to hear the results if you tried this. There's a chance it'll work despite the restriction, but I'm skeptical. If it does work for you I might have to borrow a friend's machine.

Enjoy!

Good through April 25 (if the original note I got is to be believed), so don't delay if you are interested.

Downpour Deal of the Week
Author: Patrick O'Brian
Narrator: Simon Vance
Length: 13.5 hrs - unabridged
Published: 2003 - Blackstone Audio

Quote:
Here is the maiden voyage of O’Brian’s acclaimed Aubrey-Maturin series, which follows the unique friendship between Captain Aubrey, R.N., and Stephen Maturin, ship’s surgeon and intelligence agent.

It is the dawn of the nineteenth century; Britain is at war with Napoleon’s France. When Jack Aubrey, a young lieutenant in Nelson’s navy, is promoted to captain, he inherits command of HMS Sophie, an old, slow brig unlikely to make his fortune. But Captain Aubrey is a brave and gifted seaman, his thirst for adventure and victory immense. With the aid of his friend Stephen Maturin, Aubrey and his crew engage in one thrilling battle after another, their journey culminating in a stunning clash with a mighty Spanish frigate against whose guns and manpower the tiny Sophie is hopelessly outmatched.

O’Brian renders in riveting detail the life aboard a man-of-war in Nelson’s navy: the conversational idiom of the officers in the ward room and the men on the lower deck, the food, the floggings, the mysteries of the wind and the rigging, and the roar of broadsides as the great ships close in battle.

Amazon appears to be rotating their "Free this Month" Whispersync titles quite fast now. Just a few days ago, Gulliver's Travels replaced the Wizard of Oz. Now, Heart of Darkness just replaced Gulliver's Travels. Why so fast?

All of these titles were part of the Ten Free Classics series, but that list was recently reduced to Six Free Classics. The Wizard of Oz was one of the four titles removed from that list. It's now available as a $0.99 Classic. Will the same thing happen to Gulliver's Travels? For those interested in the classics, I suggest you download the current list before anymore get converted to paid titles.

I have no idea how this will play out, so stay tuned.
