I remember spending €330 on a Sony PRS-505 in 2008. There were very few places to get decent ebooks apart from mobileread. Many authors were simply not available. Alas the perils of being an "early-adopter".

That's exactly how it was when I bought my Sony 505 back in 2009. Where ever I was reading someone would always ask what the reader was, did I like it etc. etc..

I had that experience a yr or so back with my K3. I had taken it along to have something to read while waiting for my Dr. Appointment and was reading it while having some breakfast (had fasting labs before appointment) and a gentleman asked me what it was. In a while I imagine (if it hasn't already happened) they will be so common that people will take their existence for granted.

I remember the 5.25" floppy disks that computers used when DOS was king. It was very easy for data to get scrambled on them and you put a piece of tape over the one notch in the paper sleeve to lock the disk against overwriting (if I recall right) or was that to be able to write over whatever was on the disk?

Sad thing about those 5.25 disks? Almost every school I have ever worked at has a supply of programs on them and won't let anyone trash them. There isn't a computer in the district that could possibly read them, but they can't be thrown away. "Those are educational!". I respond with "No, those are now space consumers because they cannot be used." LOL (I usually throw some out each year, Oops, I mean I 'misfile' them if I see them)

When I got my KK upon UK release in 2010 I was sitting in my car waiting for my nephews to come out of school when the parents of one of my nephews classmates came up knocking on the window asking me if it was one of those new Kindle thingies !!! Her wording not mine, I was just passing time until school let out and catching up on some reading.

As I had been carrying around a reader for over a year it caught me unawares, I think it was because of all the Amazon tv ads that brought on the interest.

My first dedicated ereader was a Kobo Touch, shortly after they were released.
Previous to that tho I was using a Nintendo DS lite as an ereader. It wasn't too bad at it really.

LOL. I was one of those people saving that ancient software. Granted, I also pulled the software off of them. For some reason, a lot of that stuff was better than the current educational titles. (For some reason, the educational software industry virtually ceased making solid products after the mid-1990s or so.)

I remember getting ahold of one of the coveted copies of "The Oregon Trail" for Aplle IIE in my computer class and being crushed when I discovered that someone had taped it up and erased the disk!

My first was a Franklin too. I loved that thing (and compared to what's available now it was pretty primitive). Sadly I left it on a train one day .
