Are you sure they don't charge you a fee to physically change currencies at the bank?

I ordered an Aura HD on the 17th, and it's already on my credit card info at my bank- for the exact amount on the invoice.

By your bank's logic, they'll charge you a 3% fee to use an ATM in a foreign country, and I've never had that problem.

It would depend on which ATM I use. Some are no-fee due to reciprocity. If there is a fee it is baked into the exchange rate. I don't see it.

It also depends on which credit card you use. Some have fees some don't.

As people have posted, Kobo now has a US subsidiary based in Delaware so no foreign transaction fees should appear. However, they don't allow you to use Paypal like they do for ebooks for ereader purchases.

Goodereader have a video comparison between the KPW and the Aura, and I am very tempted by the screen. You can see all the green and pink blotches on the KPW screen, while the Aura is just a creamy white. The Aura's screen is gorgeous and the device is not much larger than the KPW. Sigh, very tempted.

Could some of the nice people who already have their Aura please check if it displays nice formatting features like dropcaps, embedded fonts, floating images, etc. correctly? Does it play nice with extensive formatting, or does it run roughshod over it, implementing its own options? I hate how those professional reviews completely ignore these things.

Also see the Aura lighting next to the other sidelit ereaders. It's amazing.

I wouldn't exactly call them professionals. On the other hand I don't understand anything you just said so obviously we're in two different user groups.
I come from the "oh look there are words on the page" and "wow, these pageturns are really responsive" group.

What green and pink blotches? This joke has got to stop at some point. Post us the precise min and sec you saw said "blotches" in the video because I saw the same one and there were none, because there are none in the kindle paperwhites. This is the only place on the web perpetuating this myth.

So, please go ahead, where in the goodereader video did you see blotches?

Looking at the comparison videos, IMO the black is much blacker on the Kindle Paperwhite. I was not all that impressed with the Aura.

Also, can it not display indented paragraphs?

Maybe if their Aura had a black bezel it would make a difference.

I am no longer sad that I can't afford the Aura. My paperwhite is better for what I need it to do.

I do like the larger size, though.

I didn't see any blotches, either. And I didn't care for the way those guys repeatedly tried to cast the paperwhite in a negative light with their smattering of the word "unfortunately." I do not care, and it makes no difference at all, if the Kindle's light can be turned off or not. There is nothing unfortunate about it.

I found the comparisons flawed because they didn't evaluate the screens at similar brightness levels, but put them both at "70%" or something. They should have noted the different ranges of lighting, and then adjusted each to the "best" setting for the review.
