The U.S. customer service phone number and information are listed on Kobo's standard site, which is where those who live in the U.S. have ordered the Aura HD:

I don't think there is a specific US site. I would assume that they bill the order through the Kobo US Inc. entity based on your billing address.

I just Googled "kobo usa" and I got the kobo.com site. I guess it might
have been the Cannuck one but, if so, it operates in a manner that allows
for treating the order properly based on the country you select (USA or
Canada).

I've never ordered an e-reader from Kobo but whenever I order an e-book, I'm only charged sales tax. I've never been charged a foreign transaction fee from Kobo.

You can try one of your local independent bookstores. The national organization of Independent Bookstores in the US signed contracts with Kobo. My local store has Kobo readers in stock and when I buy an ebook from them it comes from Kobo with a portion of the sale coming to my local bookstore.

I've phoned them to find out if they will get Kobo Auras in stock but they don't know yet. They might be able to sell them by preorder but they don't know that yet either. I suppose you might try phoning one in your neighborhood and see what their plans are.

Here is a list of credit cards without foreign transaction fees: http://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/top-c...e-credit-card/.

You may even find that your bank offers one of them. It's a big world, and whilst you may seldom buy items outside of the US, people often buy internationally these days. That can mean currency conversion fees and all sorts of inconveniences. It actually gives me a bit of a tickle to see folks in the US complain about things that other people have had to deal with for years and years.

I'll check with my parents and see if they have a card that has no transaction fees. But if not, it will only be $2.55 for the fee if there is one. So that's not so bad. It is better then sales tax.

There's not going to be a transaction fee. You're going to be ordering in US dollars, not Canadian. The fee applies when there is a currency conversion. It's clearly billed to Kobo US in Delaware. I imagine if you're in Canada, it bills you in Canadian dollars.

I am in China and won't be back to Canada until July. I wonder if these will be available by then or will they sell out and be unavailable for months? Just wondering if I should order one now and have it shipped to my sister's place. It sounds like a great device.

True, but I buy books from Kobo every month, and don't ever get foreign transactions fees. I lived in Russia for 4 years, so believe me, I know what a foreign transaction fee looks like. I haven't gotten any from Kobo or anyone since moving back to the U.S. 2 years ago.

If it's true that Kobo got 300,000 of these screens then it then I can't see it selling out too quickly. The popularity of e-ink is probably decreasing rather than increasing and Kobo is not Amazon. Plus it's a $170 device in a $100 e-reader world.

Same here. But I believe people were questioning the vendor of record (with a hardware purchse) as it related to fees, i.e., Kobo Canada or Kobo U.S. It has been answered that a U.S. purchase is indeed from "Kobo US."
