It seems to be the generic term for the kit, at least in the UK, judging by how often one encounters it in the press and on the web.
It is when it is spelled [b]eReader[/i] that really causes the most confusion. as that is how it is spelled for the format and eBooks.

I agree with Jon that this is confusing. It has already confused several new members who inadvertently bought e-reader books then found that their Sony Readers couldn't load them.
Ultimately, this is doubtless a losing battle. But the distinction is worth mentioning again.
The UK launch of the Sony means that we have had a bunch of new members from the UK. They may well not be familiar with the distinction and we wouldn't want them to trip into this pitfall. If W H Smith are really selling the Cybook Gen 3 online in the UK for £149 then we may expect yet more members from Britain and Northern Ireland. So the warning is going to be useful for a while yet. If only they would rename the e-reader format to something else.

Well, understanding that it is a losing battle is a beginning ... perhaps in time we'll have one format that fits all.

However .... why not post a sticky about it in one or more of the forums (fora ... whatever)?? Given that it's going to get a lot worse before it gets any better.

Good point, Ricky. The mods discussed the idea a while ago. Somehow, the discussion petered out - I think that it was difficult to see exactly where one sticky would be best placed. We didn't want to have more than one because some forums are beginning to get a bit cluttered with stickies. We have been threatening to prune them a bit.

I would give my left arm to be ambidextrous.

Fortunately, I did NOT have liquid in my mouth when I read that. Otherwise there would have been a mess. My logic circuits totally froze.
