marvin app is really good, i use it with the C.O.P.S (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=170903). COPS is an OPDS catalog, my problem is marvin didn"t seem to be able to use the search function. |

Hi Gaspine. I'm aware of this and it's on my to do list. I hope to have search support for COPS within a couple of versions.

Also (and obviously) if you add COPS as a favourite in Marvin's web browser you'll be able to access it easier.

Kris, is the missing search support in Marvin an issue in COPS or Marvin itself? I'm asking because I've long wanted to try COPS myself and if it's a bug in COPS, I might take a look at it. |

No, it is something that can be fixed in Marvin. It's just that COPS advertises the search URL in a slightly different way that Marvin expects.

Because Marvin expects COPS to be standards-compliant whereas it's not? (I like to fix things where they actually broke in the first place.) |

I cannot really say whether COPS is standards-compliant or not. I suspect, that Marvin is being 'narrow' when it matches the search URL. I'll get back to you by email for a geek chat.

Hi All - bear with me, I'm completely new to ebooks. Firstly, Marvin is AWESOME - my 5 star review has been submitted . Maybe that bias is because my introduction into ebooks yesterday was ridiculously painful. I purchased a book on Kobo that wouldn't appear on its app in any readable state - being sure it was me, I turned to their help desk, but they thought reading from a script, saying sorry we don't know what to do and offering me a refund this morning is troubleshooting... anyhow, a few searches, some help from Apprentice Alf's Blog, Calibre, Marvin and Dropbox and I'm in a far happier place with the Kobo app filed away as an absolute contingency only. I'd like to use Marvin/Calibre/Dropbox to store, read and annotate the business books and journal articles for my postgrad studies. It would be great to have all my reference material accessible via Marvin, but a shortcoming was that some of the journals are in PDF which the calibre converter did not like at all (the text and html conversions are fine enough on Marvin) - any chance that Marvin will read or store pdf some day? Even if it just kept the file but launched it in a reader like adobe (much like dropbox stores, but does not read epub). I know it's a lazy request, but I seem to think the next update will have better filing/categorsation and it would be great to have a "Postgrad" folder/category in Marvin with all my reference material (PDF or epub)! Also, what are the chances of having a sister iPhone app - it would be great from a purely accessible standpoint, I can't see myself reading hours and hours on an Iphone, but it would be sooooo handy when I need to quickly refer to something while assignment writing. Cheers and thanks again! |

@teamfraught: I recommend GoodReader for PDFs. It supports annotations, and Marvin can load PDFs from your Dropbox folder to GoodReader as you request. You can use the Annotations plugin to archive annotations from both Marvin and GoodReader in calibre. Converting PDFs to epub format is an exercise in frustration which rarely yields good results. It's less frustrating to simply read the PDF content in a reader optimized for PDF. G |

Hi teamfraught. I'm glad you like it. I think that GRiker's suggestions are spot in. My opinion is that your best bet for PDFs is GoodReader. Combining it with the annotations plugin gives you a very powerful setup especially for academic work.

Artbatista, I haven't been publishing dates for the iPhone version not to disappoint if there is a delay but I'm hopeful it will be earlier than that. Institute, I withdrew version 1.4 half way through Apple's review because of a defect that slipped through testing. The next release will be 1.4.5 that will also have full-book searching and other refinements. It should be available later on today (all in all, a 3 day delay; not bad). If you like you can follow Marvin on Twitter (@marvinreader). I regularly post such notifications there. |
