I don't know if this is a related issue or a different one altogether. In the current book I am reading I had about 5-6 hours to go in order to finish the book. Then when I opened it yesterday, somehow I had only 1.75 hours left to finish yet it doesn't seem to progress as I read. This morning when I opened it, I had 1 hour 12 minutes left. I've read for about half an hour and the remaining time does not reflect that. It still says I have 1 hour 9 minutes left. I've had it online and have been in the Kindle store several times this morning so it has definitely synced several times.

The time that displays at the top, however, is correct.

Is my problem related to BeccaPrice's or is this something different?

Any thoughts?

That's "reading timer" related, so a different issue.

I searched for that but didn't see any threads. Do you know if anybody has posted about this issue twobob? Thanks!

that's the reset command, don't know if it will help, nor why it is broken...

Thanks so much. I just did it and discovered that the semi-colon is actually part of the reset command. I don't know if it has fixed it yet as it still says "Learning reading speed," which I've never seen before, but this is a start. Thanks for the link!

I wish. My machines here vary wildly, from a relatively sensible -0.15s/day to a hilariously awful 45.3s/day. Cheap oscillators are pretty damn bad at keeping time, and a lot of machines have very cheap oscillators. I note that I have a pendulum clock that is a better timekeeper than the most reliable general-purpose computer I own...

Paying through the nose doesn't help either, because everyone expects you to be running NTP. My employer sells some ridiculously expensive megadollar hardware, and I was having fun repeatedly crashing one a few weeks ago while tracking down a bug. I happened to look at its NTP driftfile. ntp shows it losing 4s a day... the machine costs well over a million dollars and they used an oscillator for its clock that would shame a cheap wristwatch. (Because NTP works so very well that unless your machine is off the net or spends a year powered down nobody cares if the machine's hardware clock is hopeless.)

I noticed this too. This is really aggravating. Unix has been able to get the timezone right since long before Linux, let alone the Kindle, was ever thought of. The Kindle has not one but *two* copies of the Olson timezone database on it (one used by glibc, one by the JVM). But, despite that, it can't do daylight saving adjustment and we have to do it by hand like it was a wall clock. I guess it was too hard to have the Kindle ask what timezone you lived in or even the name of the country you lived in (which Amazon already knows)...

Pathetic. Just pathetic. Well done Amazon, a wonderful example of technology thirty years after its time.

I finally got home, connected my Paperwhite to our home internet connection, and forced a sync with Amazon. The clock is still wrong. I probably should update the firmware, and see if that fixes the problem... but I can't do that until Tuesday - too busy until then.

I don't blame Kindle. I blame the nitwits who force us to adjust time twice a year because, well, because they can.

I turned on the wifi overnight, and left my paperwhite plugged in all night. I now have a full chage and the correct time. I need to check to see whether the firmware updated. If not I'll need to force that issue, and reinstall my jailbreaks.

(If I'm seeming more scattered than usual, I've just started a complex, demanding new project, and my old project hasn't released me yet, so I'm trying to juggle two jobs. I hope it gets straightened out soon!)

Parts of Arizona and northern Indiana don't follow daylight savings time so if you live there, you never have to adjust your clocks and other devices.

I believe all of Indiana is now on DST. I remember my father-in-law complaining vehemently about it when they changed a couple of years ago.
