Are their companies who are developing goods that would benefit people that need researchers?
There are many comapnies that provide a public good and make a profit. Part of it is looking for a company or two that you like what they do and then look for jobs there. |

Another cappuccino. Lots to do and too much drama at work ...
*ranting mode on* Our boss has more or less said that she will leave, no matter what the conditions are. She says there's no way she can keep working with the big boss, because last week she had to listen to her yelling to her and insulting her, every day. She hopes to stay one more month to finish some things, but past experiences has learned us that this probably won't happen. It'll probably be: give me your car keys, the taxi is waiting outside. And then they'll change the building's entry code so she can't get in. Everyone is completely shocked at what's happening. This all happened last Friday, and the big boss just told her that she would have to wait another week for her final answer because she's going on holiday. So the big boss is skiing merrily somewhere while our boss is taking pain medication every day because of the migraine she gets from all the emotional stress. I'm disgusted. That's no way to treat people. *ranting mode off* Last edited by Iridal; 03-28-2013 at 11:05 AM. |

In Tasjkent after 23 hours of travel. Customs in Uzbekistan took a lot of time, even though I had my visa, filled out two forms extensively(....wether I had an electronic communication....filled out yes; my phone)and remained friendly even when lots of Uzbek sneaked past me to go first....
![]() After a short rest and a breakfast of green tea, egg, flat bread and a blini ( small pancake) filled with goat cheese, I trapsed through Tasjkent the whole day; saw the sights, visited the Chorsu, a huge market and asked about the provenance of certain cheeses by pointing at the different animals in my "point-it" book. Nice people, but poverty in the alleys, behind the wide Soviet avenues and huge buildings. And....21 degrees, sunny, short sleeves. ![]() In my cup: nescafé. In my hand: bananas and bread.* |

Iridal,
I would start looking. Now. Your time on this planet is short, no reason to spend it in such a hostile environment. |

I'd also start bringing a pocket sized tape recorder to work. That sounds like a hostile work environment to me!

So I guess it is a hostile working environment. Rumor has it she's here to dismantle our institute, because we know certain politicians are trying to get rid of us. It's complex and has to do with a regionalization of certain domains, including traffic safety. Another cup of water, I'm glad it's almost weekend ... |

Good luck, Iridal. This whole thing sounds frankly horrible, and very probably actionable. But first you need to survive. And definitely start actively looking for a new job.
Working on a whitepaper for a friend. Not much $$, but maybe it will lead to something more. I told him he could have this one at an "introductory bargain price", but any future work he'd have to pay my going rate. I figure if nothing else, I'll learn a LOT about HIPAA doing this. In my cup: Peet's Holiday Breakfast Blend. I really want to try out this year's Anniversary Breakfast Blend, but it will have to wait until I have real work. It certainly sounds different from last year's! Which could be good, could be bad. |
