I would make the drive gladly, except we are leaving on vacation on the 4th, and the couple of days before will be crazy. But T514ce, will you be nearby on 10/25 when we have our MR picnic? It's a quick, short drive from Atlanta.

I have no idea where I'll be in October... unfortunately I (or my company) cannot schedule out that far in advance.

Whew! They still had our picnic table reserved.

T514ce, Honey, if you are able to come, then please do. If nothing else, we will feed you good.

That would be me!, and I'm completely down with MR-meeting-up in Atlanta-proper. I'd have chimed in earlier but my home Internet access has been down for almost a week. (!!!)

No idea. How about we pick a specific date, time, and location next? You originally mentioned a late dinner/drinks. Works for me.

I think a native should pick a date... I'll be working MON-FRI, 9:00am-5:00pm, and will be in Peachtree City. What that means is that any night but Friday, because I usually have a dinner with the instructors (I'm going to "teach the teachers") on Friday.

As for time, I don't know. Atlanta is about a hour, right? From PT City? So if I leave at 6:00, I could likely be at "the place" around 7:00. Say 7:30pm.

There are a lot of places I like in Atlanta. Dante's "Down the Hatch" is a funky, eclectic Jazz Bar. The Taka Sushi Cafe in Buckhead is nice. The Watershed is awesome... but that's in Decatur. Too far.

Wait, what am I thinking? A local should pick the place, too.

When it comes to Atlanta, I don't qualify as a native. I've only been there a couple of times and most of those were pick-up/drop-off at the airport.

I don't have a date or time preference. I'm actually thinking about spending the night in Atlanta instead of driving back to Athens. My work load is light enough right now that I can take time off and I might turn this into a mini-vacation, maybe go to the Georgia Aquarium.

Hmm. Is Decatur in fact too far, Taylor? Google maps doesn't seem to think it's all that much farther than Buckhead. I just ask because I don't go out much, but most of the cool places I do go to are in the Decatur and L5P areas. OTOH, I actually moved much closer to Buckhead recently (closer to work), so if you wanted to introduce a "native" (more a multi-year transient) to the wonders of Buckhead I'm all tastebuds.

I'm in Central Florida, so Atlanta is certainly better than Alabama. However, it is a long drive for a few hour meet-up?

Anyone interested in something a bit further south? Perhaps in Florida... of course having it in Tampa would be best for me... I think there are some member's here from FL. Should I start a new thread?

I would be interested. I live to the north of Atlanta, but my schedule is flexible for those dates.

Lucky you. I already know that I'm teaching a workshop in Atlanta on 4-6 November.

My constituents know that if they want me, they have to plan 4-6 weeks in advance. The likelihood of me being available "next week" is very small.

Awesome! Got any location ideas?

And I think it's time to pick a date. The options are Monday - Thursday. My preference would be Monday.

Having young kids I haven't spent as much time down in the city the last few years, but I'll throw out a suggestion or two. Someone already mentioned Dante's and a sushi place. Both are good.

Two other possibilities are Gordon Biersch (http://www.gordonbiersch.com/restaur...location_id=28), which is a brew pub that has pretty decent food and a varied menu. There is also a new Mexican restaurant that is close to the Martin Luther King Jr. museum which has great food and great margarita's. I need to search back through my work calendar to find the name, but it is really top notch.

Maybe we should come to agreement on a type of food and then we can finalize on the restaurant choice.
