Hi,
I just bought anew Kindle paperwhite, and have downloaded and installed Calibre 64bit for my Windows 8 64bit machine. I connected the kindle, windows installed drivers automatically, and I ran Calibre. No device icon appears at the top, and when I do the debug;

According tot hat debug output windows is not able to detect your Kindle as a removable disk. Try rebooting your computer and if that does not work, you can always use the connect to folder action in calibre (by lcicking the connect/share button).
