If it is tie, WT Sharpe decides? You know WT Sharpe is going to pick In a Sunburned Country. Don't let The Man decide! Fight the power!! Vote for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea!!! |

What you are doing is trying to screw the Book Club from the best possible translation of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by trying to get it to win before this new translation is available. So let's get Sunburned instead of water logged. | |

This one has really gone back and forth. It's coming down to the wire, and as of this writing they are one vote away from a tie.

Come on In a Sunburned Country! I agree with JSWolf that while there's plenty of translations already available for the Verne, many are flawed and since a new one is apparently coming out soon, it just seems like it'd be better if we waited for Verne so that we could each choose whether we wanted to read that version or another. As it is now, if Verne wins and someone wanted the new translation, that person would have a choice between just choosing another translation that may not be as good or not participating in the month. More choice is always better and in a later month there'd be more choice for the Verne. And, the loser today will go on to compete in the second-chance month, which sounds like a perfect time for Verne to win. |

Oh, sure, perfect time. In ten months and IF there's no stronger candidate and IF we make January second chance month. Whole lotta uncertainty there, if you ask me. "Perfect time", indeed! I say go for the bird in the hand as far as Verne is concerned and let Bryson duke it out in the perfect time.

Oh and Tom, if it is a tie and it you do have to vote, if you vote for Verne, you're fired.

Aren't there like, a gazillion different titles for In a Sun Burned Country? So who knows how bad the Australian (English) got messed up in all the translations for all the other regions. 20,000 is the only logical choice. Let the FUD fly! |

I do want to read that tired old piece of science fiction. But I only want to do so with the forthcoming new translation. What's tiring is not know what was botched in all the previous translations.

The vote is still tied (there's been an additional vote for each), and I hate to keep you all in suspense, but I need to go grocery shopping. So if it's still tied in 28 minutes, let the suspense begin! |
