I can charge my Sony 350 with my Kindle cord, but can't charge the kindle with the Sony cord for some reason.

The Kindle FireHD8.9 will trickle charge with a generic USB cable connected to a standard USB power source and it fast-charges with its proprietary power brick and cable. But using the proprietary power brick with a generic cable results in a trickle charge.
I'm taking care not to use that cable with anything else. Just in case. On the other hand, the older white cable for the KT works fine with the Sony T1. |

When I get a new device, thus a new cable, I break out my label maker and print it's name in "Tiny" letters and put it on the cable plug and the charger.
Though, mostly I have found them interchangeable, at least I know which one came with what. AJ |

Either cable will work as a data cable.
The thicker cable is the Nexus 7 cable (The Nexus wall wart supplies 2 amps over the usb so it's probably to stop it getting hot) |

book64, I was going to agree with MikeB1972's post saying the Nexus 7 cable will be the thicker one, as I knowthe USB cable for my tablet is thicker than the Kindle & Sony cables, but now you've said it's for your phone, I don't have a clue - but as has already been pointed out, it shouldn't matter. Even more so now it's a phone charger and not for your tablet! Last edited by soulfuldog; 02-22-2013 at 08:49 AM. |

Seriously, there's nothing to worry about. I have lots of microUSB devices - external disk drives, a camera, readers, and tablets, and probably a dozen microUSB cables. I use cables completely at random with any device, and they all work absolutely fine. It genuinely is a standard, and cables should all be interchangeable.

I don't have any questions or doubts about USB to microUSB cables, but does anybody have any input about the car charger adapters? Are they safe to use for the Kindles? They just seem a little too cheap to me to risk a device other than a cheap cell phone.

There are some internal differences I've noticed as well between chargers. I saved a Samsung charger from an old cell phone that we no longer use because the end was a bit narrower and fits into my Verso rechargeable Arc Light easier. However it doesn't really charge either my Verso light or my readers. The lights on the devices glow indicating that they're charging, yet even after a full day when I disconnect them, they're still at the same level they were before and not charged at all.
I guess it's possible the charger itself is bad, but it's never left one location in the house so it's not been abused in any way, and the lights on the devices glow when connected too. |

I also use all of my standard cords interchangeably. I've got a 12 port usb hub on my iMac, and I keep a mini and micro usb cord attached permanently (I haven't the foggiest clue what device they came with), and use them for whatever device I am plugging in at the moment. |

Good quality car adapters are safe enough - I have a Belkin car charger with 2 USB ports on it which works very well; I use it to charge both my Kindle and my iPhone. But I would be wary of the very cheap no-name ones, just as I would be with a no-name wall charger.
