Kindle 3 fell on floor, now part of display stuck
Hi,
I accidentally dropped my Kindle 3, and now part of the screen is stuck, i.e. it does not change anymore, no matter where I navigate, I can only see the lower part of the screen changing. Is there any chance to fix that, or is my Kindle dead now? |

Call Amazon...
Even though it may be out of warranty, they will help you diagnose the issue.

Hard to say without a pic, but it sounds like the screen substrate is cracked.

That happened to my original K3 as well. All they could do in the end was replace it. It cost me around $69.00 though as the warranty year had already expired.

Agreed. If that is the case OP, then there is no fixing other than replacing the screen or the device. As others have said, contact Kindle support and they may offer you a discount on a replacement device.

Unquestionably a fractured screen substrate. This is not covered by the warranty, but Amazon have probably still do something for you in the way of a discount on a replacement.

I smashed my K3 screen about 3 weeks ago. Called Amazon UK guessing I had nothing to lose (worst case they'd say "you broke it you idiot" and I'd lose the price of the call) - they offered sympathy and a discount from a current unit... no need to return the broken device.
By pure serendipity I spotted the replacement screen (part number is ED060SC7) for sale online and a Youtube guide to dismantling the Kindle... if you're that way inclined you can do the repair for around $40/£25 delivered. It's not a process for the faint-hearted or ham-fisted - the entire screen assembly (including the glass rear substrate) is 1.14mm thick (45 thou) - it's a miracle more don't end up smashed.
