Japanese Paperwhite $90...
http://www.webpronews.com/kindle-pap...kindle-2012-10
"The Wi-Fi Paperwhite will be available for a relatively cheap 8,480 yen ($106)" actually now $95 at today's exchange rate (JPY is down lately). So is there a way to pick these up for $95 in Japan. And then hack them over to English. See below for link. Price is 7,980 Yen = $90. And when they release them in mainland China some year those should be even cheaper... OK, maybe its a long shot. Many people transfer in Japan when flying to Asia. But how many of them are Kindle developers. Not even sure they sell Kindles at Narita airport yet.
There are services in Japan that buy Japanese products and ship them all over the world. kakaku. pricejapan. The JPY seems to be getting cheaper. Anyway I still think its an interesting technical question. Amazon will someday release a Chinese version of their hardware I bet. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-575...inese-readers/ Just curious if the OS can be replaced wholesale. Or if even its just a matter of adding fonts. Last edited by ghudod; 01-18-2013 at 06:27 AM. |

Hmm Not worth the effort for the savings. But I'm sure Amazon more or less planned it that way

I am planning to get one when I travel in Japan in May.will order it on Amazon JP and get it ship to the hotel. Or purchase it in selected stores. Beyond that,it's not worth to buy online and ship internationally (via forwarding service) since the shipping cost is too expensive.
